New CEV

I got a letter to say I’m now CEV I can only think I did have gestational diabetes but I am BMI of 33 - Asian and 40. I also have a thyroid disorder but apart from the GD (pregnancy was 6.5 years ago)

Anyway I do on line shopping for food but we were short on something and I said I’ll pop to local shop and my DH said no now you’re CEV you need to shield as per the letter. I’m due to have my vaccine too next week.

I guess then I am now CEV? I don’t live in a large family unit just DH and the kids. We are home working and home schooling.

Just I have enjoyed just the occasional (every couple of weeks) going to the local Tesco just for a few things (fresh things we run out of and DH said not anymore).

Anyone else newly CEV how are you coping?

I have been CEV since the start and I don’t shield. You don’t have to. It’s advice, not the law. I have a busy family with a dh who works outside the home and two children, one is 17 and one is 9, the youngest has severe autism and attends complex needs school. It just seems daft for me to try and shield with all that going on.

However, I do try and be as careful as possible. I shop early in the morning when it’s quiet and we live rurally so being honest that makes things easier for me. I go out for walks every day etc. I have had my first vaccine dose and just doing all I can to keep myself as safe as I can, but balancing this against needing a life and being cooped up.

Yes I get my vaccine next week. So perhaps then - and yes I would go like a Sunday evening to get a few things not for ages. I did go for a walk today.

DH is worried now when kids go back to school but hopefully if it’s 8th March he has had vaccine for underlying health condition as cohort 6 already so just me now then we will have some immunity

I’ve been CV throughout (diabetes, high BMI) and also got the email last week saying I’m CEV.

I’m ignoring it. My reason is that I’ve had Covid and was not severely ill. So it’s very u likely that I would be now, if I were unlucky enough to catch it again. Those trips to the supermarket and nipping to the shop for odd things is the highlight of my week.

PuzzledObserver · 21/02/2021 20:31

Apart from the shops and going for walks, I haven’t been anywhere or seen anyone, and I do follow SD rules, wear mask etc. I’m not being cavalier, just realistic.

PS - I caught Covid from my husband. He works in a care home and they had an outbreak. It was all going so well until then.

Looking at MN, am I right in saying that it seems many people who are overweight and have diabetes are getting shielding letters. My FIL has T2 diabetes but likes to do absolutely nothing about it (he kept it secret for years). Trying to suss if he has got a shielding letter.

GoneCrazy · 21/02/2021 20:43

@TwirpingBird I don’t know cos I don’t actually have diabetes. My mother is overweight and has diabetes - she has never got a letter

I think your husband is being a bit OTT - it's a year into the pandemic that those of us with previous GD are now being told to shield, and I honestly don't think I am suddenly at more risk than I was on Thursday morning before I got the email out of the blue telling me I was now CEV!

I got the shielding email last week. I am not overweight or have diabetes, but I did have GD when I was last pregnant (no issues since though) and a autoimmune thyroid condition so I assume it's the combo that got me included on the list - but who knows really, there is no info on the letter and my GP had no idea why I've suddenly been classed as CEV.
GoneCrazy · 21/02/2021 22:20

I think mine is cos of GD as the trigger as I’ve had everything else last year if that makes sense? In saying that the new questionnaire or calculations could combine them all and make me CEV

I've also just got the letter to say I'm CEV and should shield. I'm ignoring it. I've been doing shifts in a hospital for this long don't see the point in changing when I'm already half vaccinated.

greyinganddecaying · 21/02/2021 22:43

There's a lot of debate at the moment about whether those who HAD gestational diabetes have been classed as CEV in error, when it was meant to only be those who currently HAVE gestational diabetes.

Hopefully there will be a formal statement about this soon to clear up the intent.

Nothing has changed over here.
I was already only going out only for excise. Dh was doing everything else outside. Because, I have gotten used to him doing the shopping. He took over in March when I was pregnant. I’m still on maternity leave and this is the first month being unpaid but dh picked up extra shifts.

We have already had covid (dh got it from work). I would classify it as mild. Because the worst symptom for me was low sugar. I’m diabetic and take insulin, I reduced it by a lot and still went low few times afterwards.
It seems covid had forgotten that it was supposed to increase my glucose level not lower it. Luckily I was able to manage my diabetes, but I did email my diabetic nurse for covid advice. She is a gem.
