Knowing what we do now about the vaccines, which one would you choose?
I have got to make a quick decision by end of the day on which vaccine I want. My DH has already chosen the Pfizer for himself. I’m too nervous to make my own mind up!! I obviously want the one with least side effects, but then I’ve heard all sorts of stories about both. Please advise Flowers

Ooh are we doing this one again? Grin

Alfaix · 20/02/2021 17:25

I would choose Pfizer if I were sure it had been stored correctly and knew I would get a booster 3 weeks later.
If not getting booster until 12 weeks I would choose OxAZ because it has been tested for that interval.

TheKeatingFive · 20/02/2021 17:29

If I had a choice, Pfizer

SunshiningBetty · 20/02/2021 17:30

I had a choice as chose Pfizer as it seems more effective

RunnerDown · 20/02/2021 17:30

Where are you that you have the choice

2boysand1princess · 20/02/2021 17:34

West Yorkshire

I have a choice because if I take the offer through work, I will be sent to the hospital where I am highly likely to get Oxford, but still some chance of Pfizer. If I book through work, I am told I will be given the Pfizer for certain as that’s all they are doing at their surgery.
I am group 6 now for health reasons, also a carer and also qualify through work.

I’m West Yorkshire and had a choice too. Mine I couldn’t decide so when by which was the more convenient location... one location was Pz and the other Astrazenica. Diff sides of the city and the Astra was closer to where I live and apppitnments were better times for me, so I went for the AZ.

Oly4 · 20/02/2021 17:39

I’d take either, new Oxford study suggests high efficacy after one dose.
All vaccines will wear off eventually so just take anything!

thatgingergirl · 20/02/2021 17:47

I chose the site with the best parking facilities. Was done this morning. O/AZ. DH had the same in the week - he was a bit shivery that night - fine after that. I'm not expecting anything worse.

And how are you feeling after the Oxford? Any side effects?

tara66 · 20/02/2021 17:54

I had the AZ and did not have any side effects. Walked home.

HazeyJaneII · 20/02/2021 17:58

I was offered Pfizer yesterday, but have to wait for Oxford one now, so choice rather taken out of my hands!

2boysand1princess · 20/02/2021 19:09

Has anyone had side effects with the Pfizer? I’ve read the thread on the Oxford one, but there’s not much posted anywhere on the Pfizer vaccine. Both DH and I are probably having the vaccines one day after each other, we have 3 DC (including a baby and a DS with autism) that need looking after so don’t want both of us not well enough to care for them.

I think the side effects relate to your previous exposure to Covid19. If you have some antibodies, you will react more. I hardly knew I'd had the Astra Zenica, but I believe the 2nd jab will induce a reaction. As a non allergic person, I'd have preferred Pfizer, because of the SA variant.

AfterEightMint · 20/02/2021 19:21

I had Pfizer. No side effects apart from a mildly aching arm which was nothing at all.

I would take either. Both effective in my view. Don’t put any energy into ‘choosing’. Go to the place closer to home and with easier parking.

AfterEightMint · 20/02/2021 19:22

And supplies can change. One site near us changed vaccine half way through the day.

I genuinely wouldn’t worry.

I had the Pfizer on Wednesday afternoon. That night and the next morning it felt like someone had continously punched my arm and other than that I was fine. I had a PT session at 9am, and was fine with the intense exercise but at around 10.30am a wave of intense exhaustion hit and I slept on and off for the next 6hrs. This morning woke up pretty much fine, maybe slightly less energy than normal.
Motorina · 20/02/2021 23:35

I had 36 hours of flu-symptoms with Pfizer. Felt proper rough. I haven't had covid (and have had negative antibody tests.)

The side-effect profiles in the research papers are pretty similar, I think.

DowntheTown · 20/02/2021 23:48

Had Oxford AZ yesterday late afternoon... very achy (flu-like) today. But managed well by paracetamol as per guidance. In my mind it means it’s really working but of course that’s ridiculous! Smile

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/02/2021 23:56

Throw a dice, 1-3 P, 4-6 AZ.

If you aren't happy with the outcome, there's your answer. Choose the other one. If you're happy with the outcome, go with it.

ShaunaTheSheep · 20/02/2021 23:58

I had Pfizer, just the usual sore arm for 36hrs. It appears to be the second dose that can cause more side effects, so worth taking that into consideration when booking the follow up.

MonochromeMinnie · 21/02/2021 00:00

I had the Pfizer vaccine. Bit of a sore arm on and off for 24 hours and a mild headache, so nothing too bad.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 21/02/2021 00:00

Go for the glowing green one. It makes you see in the darkGrin

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 21/02/2021 00:07

Seriously it depends what you what fra vaccine.

Looking at all the new research so far. These are my conclusions and only the opinion of a non expert

Pfizer you are maybe 5% or 10% less likely to get the virus.

AZ you have a slightly higher protection from serious illness. That is literally only a tiny difference though

Obviously more results are going to come out all the time. Which might say something different. Nobody can choose at the moment. So irrelevant.
