Checking your temperature - hot spots!

We have a point-and-shoot style forehead thermometer and have got in the habit of checking our temps most mornings. We both come into contact with a lot of people each day at work and whilst there are distancing and PPE protocols still best to monitor closely for symptoms I think.

Anyway, I have found that I have hot spots on my temples! Especially the right. Usually 0.5-1°C higher then the rest of me which fairly steady whether you check mid-forehead, wrist, chest etc. Right now for example I am 36.9-37.0 everywhere else but 37.4 on my temples, which thermometer flashes as yellow warning zone. When my temp goes up, the difference at the temples gets wider as well so when I had a general temp of 37.4-6 my temples went up to 38.8 flashing red (I did isolate and test for that, as nowhere on me was a ‘green’ temp, as I felt shit as well, it was negative and temp was back to normal within 2 days so went back to work).

Anyway my questions are - is it normal to have these hot spots (hopefully!)? And should you go by your general temperature or your hot spot one when assessing for Covid symptoms?

Well it makes sense as in that area the bone is thinner and there’s lots of blood vessels.

I would definitely go by your forehead temperature, that’s what the thermometer is designed for.
