Why has my husband been invited for the vaccine?

Don't get me wrong I'm thrilled he has, as he's my husband and I love him. However, he's 40, with no underlying conditions. I'm 42 and have congenital heart disease and I've not been invited. Doesn't make sense! I know this probably sounds a bit like sour grapes, but it genuinely isn't, I'm just confused. Any thoughts why he may have been invited?

Yes something odd is happening. My GP practise is inviting all 16 to 64 with no underlying conditions yet my DH is group 6 and not heard a sausage.

HippoNamedBooBooButt · 19/02/2021 18:33

Yes I read something about a surgery in W Sussex doing that

WouldstrokeTomHardy · 19/02/2021 19:16

I'm in the NW btw

Hollyhead · 19/02/2021 19:23

Exactly the same has happened to us - DH invited no health conditions. I have the most minor heart condition but would have qualified for group 6 (I’d have felt guilty) and have heard nothing. Do you think there’s an error going on?

Lockdownennui · 19/02/2021 19:29

Us too! DH has just been invited. 44 years old, no health conditions at all. Weird.

RinkyD · 19/02/2021 19:32

I just saw in the daily mail that anyone over 50 who should not get the vaccine and booked in by mistake should flag it and wait.

SnowWouldHelp · 19/02/2021 19:36

Do you remember where you read about W Sussex @HippoNamedBooBooButt? I'm a bit baffled about this too!

DavidsSchitt · 19/02/2021 19:38

I've several heart conditions, my GP refuses to even discuss that I should be group 6

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 19/02/2021 19:45

The list changed the other day. I got a call from my GP surgery yesterday. Surprised, because my issue hasn't been mentioned at all so far, even though I did wonder out loud about it to my partner a few times.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 19/02/2021 19:46

I was surprised to be invited as I'm 41 with no underlying issues and had mine today but nobody could really tell me why I had been called (I checked with the GP as didnt want to take it from someone who needed it more if it was a mistake)

I'm SE.

It is supposed to by 16 -64 year olds WITH underlying health conditions, your GP practise has misunderstood the criteria.

whatisthislifesofullofcare · 19/02/2021 19:51

Maybe his GP surgery listed his height as 62cms rather than 6’2”, giving him a BMI of 18000

I read on twitter that this had happened to some young chap in his 30s! Grin

Humpty11 · 19/02/2021 19:56

@whatisthislifesofullofcare when I read this on the bbc news app last night I realised that I need lockdown to be over so I can get out more because it made my week!

DigitalGhost · 19/02/2021 19:57

My local GP surgery were sent the wrong list on Wednesday and booked loads of 16-64 year olds in with no underlying conditions. 🤦‍♀️

Thiscantreallybehappening · 19/02/2021 19:58

This is the list from the Govt website.

GP surgeries and vaccination hubs should now be doing:
All those 65 years and over and
16 -64 year olds with underlying health conditions.

GP surgeries should be concentrating on their patients with underlying conditions and vaccination centres should be doing age 65 years and older.

It is obvious GP surgeries are misunderstanding/misreading the criteria.
Well done to people that have got their vaccine. However, other people that should be having their vaccine are missing out.

Phase 1 – direct prevention of mortality and supporting the NHS and social care system
JCVI advises that the first priorities for the COVID-19 vaccination programme should be the prevention of mortality and the maintenance of the health and social care systems. As the risk of mortality from COVID-19 increases with age, prioritisation is primarily based on age. The order of priority for each group in the population corresponds with data on the number of individuals who would need to be vaccinated to prevent one death, estimated from UK data obtained from March to June 2020 (see reference 3):

residents in a care home for older adults and their carers
all those 80 years of age and over and frontline health and social care workers
all those 75 years of age and over
all those 70 years of age and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals[footnote 1]
all those 65 years of age and over
all individuals aged 16 years[footnote 2] to 64 years with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality[footnote 3]
all those 60 years of age and over
all those 55 years of age and over
all those 50 years of age and over

Has your DH ever had anything serious in the past? From what I've read, the system for identifying who is vulnerable can sometimes identify people as vulnerable for something they had ages ago.

The only thing we can think of is that he had Bell's Palsy about fifteen years ago.
OP posts:
yikesanotherbooboo · 19/02/2021 21:39

It could be the Bell's Palsy as the current search has picked up people with a history of' neurological disease'. It may be that your DH 's Bell's Palay has triggered this. He doesn't need to be prioritised if that is all that it is. He could discuss with admin at his GP practice.

Mindymomo · 20/02/2021 07:46

Have you tried booking yourself online for the vaccine. You only need your NHS number which is on repeat prescriptions form.

There does seem to be a blip in the system with regards to people with no underlying conditions, but who knows. If offered everyone should take it.

ittakes2 · 20/02/2021 07:57

Is your husband by any chance an ethnic minority? Both my husband and I are in group 6. My husband has numerous health issues including diabetes. I have some including being a ceoliac (ceoliacs on the list due to assumed possible spleen issues) but we have always considered my husband would be higher in the queue. I was completely surprised I had been called but not my husband. I think it might be because I am mixed race and ethnic minorities considered more vulnerable (although the cynic in me says to improve gov stats!)

My 40 year old sister has her appointment on Monday. It is because she has coeliac disease. She's white British, so I don't think ethnicity comes into it.
