Anyone else used to lockdown now?

I quite like our little bubble. I like not having to see people. I like not doing the school run.

I’m quite worried about it ending.

Yes. Love being at home all the time and not being called weird for doing so. Love not arguing with my husband about why I don't want to spend all weekend at the in laws (he's free to do what/see who he likes). Love Dd being at home (not prepared to home educate though, I did it with Ds for 8 years, it's knackering).

My life is the same really - I just have to defend my choices about wanting to be at home less.

PitchImperfect · 19/02/2021 16:33

The idea of things getting back to "normal" once enough people have been vaccinated has triggered my depression. I've been functioning pretty well for several years now & lockdown was great when DH was furloughed. The last few days I've been getting progressively worse & today it's particularly bad & I just can't motivate myself to do anything.

peak2021 · 19/02/2021 16:37

I have not got children of or under school age. I am very used to wfh and would be happy for it to continue for good.

I do miss seeing mum, her neighbours whom I have known for over 30 years, and holidays.

Bedforme · 19/02/2021 16:37

I’m getting too used to it. Diagnosed with autism aSD an adult and I was just beginning with baby steps independently in socialising and talking to neighbours. I’m now back with DParents as would not have coped physically mentally alone so all the work being lost. I didn’t know people enough to do zoom things so will have to start from scratch. Think it will be harder as people want to be with family or have got used to being at home. Sad

rawalpindithelabrador · 19/02/2021 16:39

No, never. Fucking hate it. It's fucking ridiculous.

WanderingFruitWonderer · 19/02/2021 16:40

I enjoyed lockdown #1. I didn't mind lockdown #2 (light & short) but I feel totally different about lockdown #3. I've found it much harder, and can't wait for it to end. The novelty has well & truly worn off!

How small your lives must have been

I am so fed up of people saying this. I’m in my 50s. I’ve been to plenty of pubs and gigs and everything else you mention. I don’t want to have to shout to be heard in the pub, or fight my way to the bar. Been there, done that. Now I prefer to sit at home and do a craft project, it’s not “sad” or “small”. I’ve just entered a different period in my life.

As sick as you are of lockdown, I’m sick of people saying that people like me are living a “half life”. I’ve experienced more than you can imagine. Now I want a quiet period. There’s nothing sad about it.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 19/02/2021 16:43

I am enjoying it. I don’t really have many friends and rarely go out anyway. I do look forward to easily being able to travel abroad though.

Drives me nuts too. Yes, my life is small and simple now. Mainly because it changed quite drastically and now we are working but broke.

I've travelled the world though and so have my kids. Just because I prefer my own company and my immediate family and staying in and can't afford to go out all the time doesn't make me any less of a person than one with a million friends and a wild social life.

Globe22 · 19/02/2021 16:45

No. I hate it, I can't wait for it to all over with. If it opened up tomorrow I'd be right there at the bar, shop, theatre or museum. I hate being cooped up apart from yet another fucking pointless walk around the same place. If I didn't go out to work I'd have gone bonkers. I don't like binge watching or baking or crafting. I quite like gardening but it's winter! I hate the fact that my son is stuck at home meeting no-one at all except online! It's almost over thank god, hope springs eternal and all that!

MRex · 19/02/2021 16:46

I've had phases of being fine, and long phases like right now where I'm OK but have a sad yearning underneath it all for all the things I thought we'd do with DS over the last year, missing family, missing friends, missing restaurants and pubs, everything really.

Faithtrusts · 19/02/2021 16:47

Only sad thing is some of us where only just finding that freedom and fun of pubs and gigs etc after a horrendous five years.. and I'm a prisoner again and have lost a year of my life that I should have been living.

Lockdown is awful, the impact has been awful on some people and we are all powerless to stop it, I've near lost a friend to suicide through it ( and he is just about hanging on the gym was his coping mechanism) and have lost a colleague through suicide who couldn't cope with the never ending moving of goal posts.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/02/2021 16:48

God no. I hate everything about it. So isolating and depressing.

Katie517 · 19/02/2021 16:50

Oh another one of these threads! No I’m not used to it, no I’m not enjoying an empty joyless existence where the only thing to look forward to is another walk. I’m not enjoying that the last couple of months of my maternity leave have been spent trudging around in mud just to have someone to talk to! My life was full and busy, I miss it I desperately want to take my six month old on days out, on holiday, to have them sit and play with other babies! This is not normal life it’s existing!

Alfaix · 19/02/2021 16:50

Yes, we are ok with it but still look forward to it ending.
I think the difference is I am working so leave the house and speak to people. I work in 3 different settings so speak to lots of people.
DS gets to go to school because of this and more than half his class are in. He is doing home learning 1-2 days and likes that he has those days with me.
We miss family but MIL is in our bubble and my parents are very local so we stay in touch well.
We miss friends though - can’t wait to share a bottle of fizz with my friend while the kids play! Roll on Spring.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/02/2021 16:54

I think for those of us who are hating lockdown the frustration comes from the fact that anyone who does want a quiet life is free to live that way anyway - no one HAS to go to the pub or a festival or see people all the time if they don't want to. You have the choice. Those of us who do like those things have no choice in the matter right now.

User7458 · 19/02/2021 16:54

No, because we are retired and wanted to go away on some long holidays in different parts of the world which won't happen now, instead we are doing the garden, I feel I am living the life of an eighty year old not early 60s

HamSandwichKiller · 19/02/2021 16:55

Nope.
I'm a massive introvert and bored to the back teeth by now. Quite happy at home generally but home being the only option available other than Tesco is not living.

CocoPark · 19/02/2021 16:56

@Waxonwaxoff0 well said, it's so true!

Personally I hate it, it's not real life. And the thought of the economic fallout makes my stomach lurch.

Fuckadoodledoooo · 19/02/2021 16:57

waxonwaxoff sure. It's the just the horror and all the, 'half life' comments and the "if my life hadn't changed that much, I'd be depressed".

It's quite frustrating to be told all the time that your life is somehow not right.

DinosaurDigestive · 19/02/2021 16:57

No need to feel sorry for me and I've certainly not had "half a life" not the case at all.

I simply prefer being at home. As do many people. Not everyone wants to be going out and about to pubs. Lots have been there, done that and some others it doesn't appeal to. We are all different.

As for lots finding lockdown comforting etc it is to be expected as it has become the normal and being at home with our loved ones and pottering about etc has been our comfort for so long particularly in the first lockdown when we weren't all sure what was coming and the worst was imagined.

Some people are homebodies and some aren't. Doesn't make anyone bad or a lockdown lover before that is mentioned.

During the first lockdown without a doubt it felt safe for so many being at home away from transmission risks so it's completely natural some are feeling not great about things changing.

Everyone reacts differently to things. Same as some are extroverts and others are introverts

peboh · 19/02/2021 16:57

I think everybody is used to it at this point, but it doesn't mean we like it.
I long for the days we can get outside and do more things.

LindaEllen · 19/02/2021 16:58

@Caramel81

I prefer it but I suffer with anxiety so I feel calmer and safer being able to be at home so much. Not looking forward to having to go back to the office and spend regular time with family members again
Exactly the same here. Every situation that I used to get anxious about has been removed from my life. I'm quite scared of things going 'back to normal' if I'm honest.
Chimeraforce · 19/02/2021 17:02

No. I like wfh but this is not normal and isn't right for my secondary aged only child.

It's hurting alot of people and it needs to end.

I'm not sure if I'll handle a return to the office though. I've always hated it there.
