Do you get any immunity before 3 weeks from the vaccine

My dd (who lives with me) has a cough and a lost appetite (she doesn’t have a temperature though). She is getting a test today. I am CEV and over 70 and had my first Pfizer jab two weeks ago. I was just wondering if in the event she does have Covid, will I have any protection from the jab or because it’s under a month will it give none? She says she feels well within herself but I get that young people don’t feel as ill when they have it, so she may still have it.

Yes, if you had first Pfizer vaccine 21 days ago, you should have a good degree of immunity after first dose. It doesn’t stop you getting it, but symptoms should not be as severe. Hope the test on your DD is negative.

With only having had it two weeks ago I doubt you'll have developed much immunity yet. Unfortunately.

It's quite possible not to get it, even if your daughter has it though. With you being 79 & CEV, it would be best if you could stay elsewhere - but if you can't, then just make sure she stays in her room and you put meals outside her door and you don't share cutlery/cups etc unless you put them through a dishwasher and use separate bathrooms if possible. If not that it's well cleaned after she's used it. Get her to do it, then you do it when you go in there.

Stay as safe as you can & enlist help for shopping etc!

Immunity seems to start from about day 12-14 for Pfizer, so although you won’t have much protection now you will in a few days.

Yes. There is a nice graph somewhere showing the increase in protection you get during the first 3 weeks. It increases steadily from about 3 days in. You are of course most protected from three weeks.

The covid Zoe app states the following;

“ The latest data from the app suggests that although a reasonable level of immunity builds after two weeks - with 50% protection after a fortnight and 67% protection after three weeks - the three current UK vaccines (Pfizer/BioNTech, Oxford/AstraZeneca and Moderna) all need two doses to achieve maximum protection”.

Some estimates attached (calculated from small numbers though, so think of them more as a rough guide).

A bit I think! DP just tested positive after a month post Pfizer and I'm now waiting on my test result and had the vaccine 3 weeks ago but hoping its offered me some protection!
