Researchers urge delay in administering Pfizer vaccine's second dose

Just seen this on the news , seems like researches around the world are thinking the British approach is the right way to go

"They cautioned that there may be uncertainty about the duration of protection with a single dose, but said that the administration of the second dose a month after the first provided “little added benefit in the short term”.
Given the current vaccine shortage, postponement of the second dose is a matter of national security that, if ignored, will certainly result in thousands of COVID-19–related hospitalizations and deaths this winter in the United States,” the authors warned."

Good. I honestly don’t think we’ve gone too far wrong with this. Vaccines with more than one dose are commonly given several weeks apart (Men B in babies for example is an 8 week gap) as it shown to be more effective. So I’m not surprised these are any different. It’s in Pfizer’s interests to say 3 weeks apart as it’s more vaccines thus more money.

All the data so far indicates a real success rate in serious illness & hospitalisation. & that is most important right now. If by the time we are second dosing & opening up more & more in summer, we’ve got hospitalisations & serious illness in the most at risk categories down, then we are in good position to get on with life again!

I’ve opposed the change in dosing regime on the basis that going against the manufacturer and research advice is such a big gamble.

That said, I’m really pleased it seems that it’s paying off this time. More than happy to be proved wrong for good results! Grin
