Me and my mum are having a bit of a disagreement and wondering if someone can confirm which is right.

Mum has symptoms as of today. Dad doesn't. Both gone to get a test this evening. I say they both have to isolate until the results are in. (What I gather from gov & NHS site)
They asked at the test centre and were told by 2 staff members he can go to work tomorrow while waiting for their results.

Please tell me I'm not going mad in thinking that is the wrong information and even logic prevails they should wait for results?

If someone in the household has symptoms everyone has to isolate.

You are correct

TheChip · 17/02/2021 18:40

Yes. You are supposed to wait for the test results before you can stop isolating.
Even if only one comes back positive and the other negative, both would still need to isolate.

My whole household had to isolate while we waited for test results from ds.

Spied · 17/02/2021 18:40

As above

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 17/02/2021 18:40

If 1 person is a close contact but no symptoms then only they have to isolate, other people in the house don't

Cookerhood · 17/02/2021 18:40

And if your dad tests negative today it doesn't mean he would tomorrow, or the next day etc etc. It's just a snapshot.

Jellykat · 17/02/2021 18:42

Plus dad could be asymptomatic

Parmavioletmum · 17/02/2021 18:44

Thank you!

I'm aware if they've had contact then only the person who has, has to isolate. Happened with my sons school bubble, he had to, we didn't.

But was sure if someone in a household has symptoms then the house all have to isolate until results say negative or if positive for 10 days etc. So glad I'm not going bloody mad! It's like I said to her, most people at test centre aren't going to be trained in all the details necessarily and to go by the gov website.

Everyone who lives with your dad and in his bubble must isolate until result...from gov website

Somebody please clarify for me....
Parmavioletmum · 17/02/2021 18:53

Thank you @HazeyJaneII that was the exact bit I was looking for but couldn't find it again for love nor money!

Fingers crossed for a negative result, @Parmavioletmum, and that your dad is ok.

PurpleDaisies · 17/02/2021 19:15

Clutching at straws, did they have symptoms that weren’t the key ones?

How can people not know that anyone in your household or bubble with symptoms means everyone stays home and isolates until the test is negative? It’s been a year!

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 17/02/2021 19:16

Is there anyway you can let the test centre know that their staff are giving our incorrect advice?

How many people will have gone through there today and now be walking about potentially spreading covid?

PurpleDaisies · 17/02/2021 19:17

Why is your dad getting tested? He doesn’t have symptoms.

HazeyJaneII · 17/02/2021 19:19

Oh sorry...it's your mum with symptoms! Hope she is ok....and yes your dad shouldn't have tested, as he has no symptoms.

Parmavioletmum · 17/02/2021 19:26

He's a keyworker for a funeral service doing coroners work etc. So was advised to get a test as obviously if he is asymptomatic but positive, his coworkers need to know as they go to care homes etc. Yes ppe is insane but still high risk work. So more for his workplace he was advised to get one.

No exactly. My mum was agreed with me until the test centre told them otherwise which made them doubt what we thought. I've said she needs let them know as like you say how many people have been given the wrong information. It wasn't wasn't just 1 member of staff but 2 which i find shocking!

Likelihood is they both come back negative but she's lost sense of taste so one of the main ones which is worrying.

OP posts:
AntiHop · 17/02/2021 19:32

They both have to see isolate. Even if your dad tests negative,

AntiHop · 17/02/2021 19:36

If the test centre really said that, your parents need to raise a complaint, as that is seriously worrying that the staff are getting this wrong.

Is it possible the staff thought your parents were doing asymptomatic testing?

LadyPenelope68 · 17/02/2021 19:42

@Parmavioletmum
If your Mym has symptoms then yes, they should both be isolating until she has the results. However, if asymptotic then your dad should NOT have gone for a test, the tests are for those who are symptomatic, doesn’t matter what job he does, the guidance is still the same.

Parmavioletmum · 17/02/2021 19:43

@AntiHop yes they both are and have let his employer know they are awaiting results.

In all seriousness I doubt it. They asked specifically as my mum had symptoms, as they wanted to be able to confirm for my dad's employer so there was no shadow of a doubt he was required to be off too. So they're definitely raising a complaint now, to ensure no-one else gets misinformed as it really made them doubt themselves.

@PurpleDaisies

Why is your dad getting tested? He doesn’t have symptoms.
Here when you test they offer to test up to 3 family members at the same time. Although we also have walk in lateral flow testing for anyone without symptoms.
BlueTimes · 17/02/2021 20:24

You’re right, he needs to isolate.
