Do you have to be tested before you can see a doctor now?

Tried to make an appointment to see my doctor and they have requested I take a Covid test and receive negative result before I can be seen. Is this the case everywhere?
The problem I have is not Covid related.

Not ime. Dh has had blood tests, nurse and doctor appointments. Hospital did do a temperature screening.

hopeishere · 17/02/2021 17:37

To see your GP?

I've not heard of that. I saw a consultant recently and didn't get one but if I'd ended up going for surgery i would have had to get one.

Earlybirdmissedtheworm · 17/02/2021 17:40

Not in my surgery but I did need to have a rant before I was allowed to see a GP.
Not sure why they've been hiding since last March but are happy for the practice nurses to see people 🤷‍♀️ seems silly, how long would you have to wait for the result and could get worse while waiting.

Souther · 17/02/2021 17:40

Depends on what your symptoms are. If you've got a cough or a fever you should be getting a test anyway

mootymoo · 17/02/2021 17:41

Only if the symptoms match, I saw the nurse and never was mentioned today

BikeRunSki · 17/02/2021 17:42

I had a smear test last week at my surgery and no test was required.

isoflix · 17/02/2021 17:43

How strange! I will do the test but as I don't actually have any symptoms I'm hoping there is an option such as ' at doctors request' .

The issue I have is completely non related to any COVID symptoms I'm aware of.

They probably mean one of the new asymptomatic tests that are available in some places.

Unless of course you called with symptoms that could be construed as covid.

Toorapid · 17/02/2021 17:47

No, but our GP is only doing telephone appointments.

Kitkat151 · 17/02/2021 17:56

Just go for one of the lateral flow tests for non symptomatic people..... usually at local community centres.....you get the result by text in 30 to 40 minutes

Kitkat151 · 17/02/2021 17:57

Ps.... they are usually drop in clinics as well....so no need to book

Akire · 17/02/2021 17:58

Mine only asked if had cough or fever etc but strangely enough if I’ve come back from Denmark in the last 14 days er no.

ShopTillYouDropp · 17/02/2021 17:59

No, I had appointment with GP last week and then appointment with nurse next week. No test and no questions asked about covid. I did have covid in October and GP knows I don't know if this makes any difference

WhatHaveIFound · 17/02/2021 18:02

Not at my surgery as I've taken DS to two doctor's appointment, an ecg and a blood test over the last few months. They didn't ask for either of us to be tested but I did have to fill in a health questionaire for him (not me) and we were temperature checked on the way in.

Wasn't required for a hospital consultation either.

ExpulsoCorona · 17/02/2021 18:04

It depends on what symptoms you called up with. We know that the 'big three' don't cover it. If you have new onset headache, fatigue, muscle pains, sore throat, a cold or diarrhoea then they may ask.

No not here. DH needed to call GP yesterday with an urgent issue. They called back to do phone triage and sent him off to the emergency unit immediately where he saw both a nurse and dr (and a trainee paramedic!). Was more efficient than usual tbh.

See a Doctor?

I think I remember those days. 🤔

BunsyGirl · 17/02/2021 18:09

No, had my smear test two weeks ago and no Covid test was required.
