Vaccination Groups

notangelinajolie · 17/02/2021 15:04

I see a lot of posters saying which vaccination group they are in but how do they know this?

Has their GP told them or are they just looking at the list and working it out for themselves?

Are some people's GP's notifying them of their group?

Is there a database somewhere you can find this out?

You can work out which group you are in if you know how old you are, or whether you are a front line worker, or have an underlying condition etc etc. The only thing there is some doubt over is how clinically vulnerable some underlying conditions make people. Have you looked at the lists?

MatildaStoker · 17/02/2021 15:15

The government have issued guidelines on vaccination priority groups, see link:

www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-vaccination-care-home-and-healthcare-settings-posters/covid-19-vaccination-first-phase-priority-groups

If you read through that, it’s fairly easy to work out which group you’re in.

Most of the conditions that qualify someone for being in a clinically extremely vulnerable group of a clinically at risk group will be known to the GP, but I don’t think they’ve been routinely notifying patients that they’re in group 4 or group 6 unless they’re advising the patient to shield.

Just looking at the list.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 17/02/2021 15:32

I looked at the list back in December.

Called my GP to get an appointment. Went in, got weighed as I knew my bmi was over 40 but they didn't.

So after that I knew I would be in group 6 (thought I would be in for asthma too but that was changed recently)

I just wondered if there is an official way of finding out rather than looking at the Gov group list and working it out for yourself. My DH is doing they typical man thing and won't phone the GP because he says they are too busy dealing with people who are sick and his turn will come.

According to the list he is CV. He is mid 50's with heart failure and so should be in group 6 I think.

On the Gov booking site it says they are doing groups 5 & 6 so he has been trying to book a jab online. But once he's put his details in it says he not eligible yet because he is not over 65.

Every single year without fail his GP misses him off the free flu vaccine list so I'm wondering if they have forgotten to put him on the CV list too.

I had no idea
Then the Epilepsy Society sent an update saying people with epilepsy are group 6

Thimbleberries · 17/02/2021 16:35

GPs here have signs all over their webpages not to phone as they're too busy, so in one way, he is right about that! You even have to click a button that says 'I promise not to phone about this' or something in order to get on to the next page of info.

But I think Group 6 can't book through the national site, so he may just have to wait til his surgery phones or texts. If he is missed off the flu jab list, though, it might be worth trying to write/email the surgery if you don't hear soon, or if you know of other people in that group who have heard. In my area, Group 6 is only being done by GPs and the national service is just for the age groups, so they can be on to lower groups even when GPs are still doing group 6.

WombatChocolate · 17/02/2021 16:44

Group 6 cannot book through the national site. Group 5 can. Group 6 have to wait for co tact from the NHS.

Beaniecats · 17/02/2021 16:47

By the way although epilepsy is group 6 people are being told by GPs it isn't. So you might need contact GP if in this situation as it seems they don't know themselves

FebFrosting · 17/02/2021 16:48

@notangelinajolie Group 6 cannot book on the Gov website as I rang 119 to check. Only through Gp contact is group 6. So Group 6 have to wait to be contacted.

Abraxan · 17/02/2021 16:51

I was originally told I was in the shielding group but that was then changed and rheumatology verbally said I was vulnerable. When I was ill with Covid the gp and the hospital doctors all commented on me being vulnerable and whether I should have been in school at the time (was autumn term so the answer was yes, I was expected in as normal.)

I also checked during a visit to the surgery yesterday and was shown in the screen where it was flagged.

I was told it would be a few weeks time yesterday as they were still finishing groups 1-4.

However I got a call this morning and I am being vaccinated next week Grin

notangelinajolie · 17/02/2021 17:20

Okey dokey, thank you everyone. I didn't realise the online service was just age groups . So CV under 65 can't book online and they have to wait for a letter or text from GP.

No wonder GP's are busy Smile everyone is ringing them.

Given what you’ve said about him being missed off the free flu vaccine list, it may be worthwhile contacting the GP surgery and checking whether they’ve got him listed as Group 6.

notangelinajolie · 17/02/2021 19:04

Yes will do Matilda Smile

Just wanted to update to say that DH called his GP and yes he is on their list and letters are going out next week. A little behind some areas which is surprising because FIL who has the same GP managed to get 2 x Pfizer jabs in one of the big vaccine centres by the first week in Jan. His GP isn't doing vaccinations and jabs are done in a local community centre so perhaps that is why there is a delay. But not complaining and I'm very relieved he's next up.
