Travelling abroad for a wedding (not my own)

Preface: not looking for abuse or just facts

I am in the UK my only and beloved sister lives abroad and is getting married in late may/June. I would (understandably) like to attend and wamt to go if legally possible.

She is not in one of the 30 countries requiring quarantine upon return to UK.

From what I can tell a wedding is a reasonable reason to fly - the gov website is awkward to navigate though amd am doubting myself
Am I right? Or am I not allowed to travel for this reason?

Also What should I expect at the airport?
I don't have "proof" per se other than some whats apps from her
I don't even have an offical save the date invite thingy!!!

The rules may even have changed by then and travel may not be ' illegal ' anymore. I've heard of people travelling and not even being asked why ( at the moment ). As long as they're citizens of the country they're flying to, which I'm guessing you won't be ?

Just see how it goes, things may relax a little on the travel front by then!

You will probably be able to go for a wedding as long as you can quarantine in your house upon return and can pay for all the testing before/after flying. Are you able to do all that?

A wedding does not appear to be a legally permitted reason to travel during lockdown nor Tier 4. That said, we should certainly be out of lockdown by May. It might be best if you can to fly out as early as it's permitted even if you spend a month or two away, to save the risk of late issues.

It's really not written super clearly.
www.gov.uk/guidance/travel-advice-novel-coronavirus
You must not travel, including abroad, unless you have a legally permitted reason to do so. It is illegal to travel abroad for holidays and other leisure purposes.

So, you need to check "legally permitted reasons". The great news for you is that I'm wrong and found it in the reasons why you can leave home:
www.gov.uk/guidance/national-lockdown-stay-at-home#when-you-can-leave-home
Communal worship and life events

You can leave home to attend or visit a place of worship for communal worship, to attend a funeral or event related to a death, to visit a burial ground or a remembrance garden, or to attend a wedding ceremony. You should follow theguidance on the safe use of places of worshipand must not mingle with anyone outside of your household or support bubble. Weddings, funerals and religious, belief-based or commemorative events linked to someone’s death are all subject to limits on the numbers that can attend.
