Late 40s - when do you think you’ll have the jab?

Late 40s, no underlying conditions. I’m assuming we will be the next group to be called once the 50s have been done... but when do you think that will be?

I don’t know but I think they need to get to 40s quickly - we make up a gigantic chunk of primary, secondary and university parents.

MangoButterFingers · 17/02/2021 11:29

Enjoy [grin}

I’m not convinced I’ll take up the jab unless forced. I’m ridiculously healthy, never get ill and if I do throw it off after a few days think they’ll find as they work their way down the population the take up will get less.

Thanks mango

sleepyhead · 17/02/2021 11:36

The calculator suggests May at the earliest. I'm 40s, no special circumstances.

Theforest · 17/02/2021 11:39

They haven't decided who is next after 50 yet. I agree that parents are at risk if the kids go back and many fall in this age category. I hope they decide soon.

HSHorror · 17/02/2021 11:40

It may go to teachers and police and shop workers.
Which imo is an error as it should as pp said go to the parents because
School spread
Protect the children especially those who need to go to school but cant be vaxxed yet
It would reduce isolations and bubbles bursting
And obviously the risk of depe dented n children losing a parent or have them long term disabled. Plus the chance of mutations.
Less school spread less back out to gp less back out into offices etc

Benhew · 17/02/2021 11:56

I worry a lot about the over 40's group - I think they should be next in group 10, alongside teachers and front line police. I don't think shop staff should fall in to this as the more vulnerable staff will be covered to date and in this group and there is no significant impact of closure of a supermarket compared to a school or police disruption etc. Just my thoughts, but age is the main risk factor aside from the medical conditions/obesity so it would make sense to keep it moving through these groups.

justanotherneighinparadise · 17/02/2021 12:22

@Benhew I have no idea why you’re worried about over 40’s Confused.

Over 40’s with an underlying health condition I get. Over 40’s with a high BMI - yep. But over 40’s en masse, we really don’t need your concern.

Seeline · 17/02/2021 12:25

Well I'm early 50s, but under 55 so group 9. I was expecting early May. Had a call from my GP this morning to go and have it on Saturday!! I even queried it as I have no underlying conditions, but they were certain it was my turn. I am very surprised as I am in London, who were very slow getting the first 4 groups done.

Racoonworld · 17/02/2021 12:27

I wouldn’t assume late 40s will be the next group after over 50s. There’s talk of prioritising public facing workers next and that will be a large group.

IloveJKRowling · 17/02/2021 12:28

Yes, they either need to make schools safer or vaccinate this age group, plus student facing staff.

AlexaShutUp · 17/02/2021 12:32

I'm waiting to know when we'll get done, too. Also late forties and have a dd in school, so we are mostly exposed through her. Dh will get his earlier as he is 54.

I'm concerned about my risk level as I have a high bmi but not high enough to be in a priority group iyswim. I have managed to lose 3 stone and am trying to lose more, but I still feel vulnerable.

I suspect that frontline workers will get priority over and above people in their forties.

SpencerGregson · 17/02/2021 12:34

Have to say, I haven't really thought about it. I may be hopelessly naive but I have always thought that if I do get ill, I'll get over it.

I'd rather not get ill with anything, mainly as it would be a massive hassle, but don't worry unduly about this. I'll take the vaccine when offered, though, as i feel it would be irresponsible not to.

hennybeans · 17/02/2021 12:52

I think because vaccinations are happening so fast they will have no choice but to carry on down in age order. Anything else will slow the whole thing down.

Say they go by occupation. Firstly, there's the arguement about which occupation. Teachers- ok, police-ok. What about plumbers for example? Definitely essential, in and out of people's homes all day. On and on.

Then say they include shop workers in the priority. You work for Tesco, easy enough to prove. But what about my friend who works two mornings in the village shop? How would she prove it? A letter from her employer? Who would my friend give the letter to? Her overworked GP? How would they verify it? The village shop owner is my neighbour; What if I forge a letter from her saying I work there too?

There's just no point in doing anything other than age order because there isn't time. So I think late 40s will get done late April - Mid May would be my best guess.

I worry because quite a few over 40's have underlying conditions they aren't aware of yet. A 40+ yo, BAME male is showing as fairly increased risk on the risk calculators -add in high BP and overweight and that is a concern but not enough to be a priority for vaccination, so I think it makes sense to go for 40+ next. But, that is my opinion, I do have concerns for some people in that demographic, you may disagree.

lubeybooby · 17/02/2021 13:09

I thought all under 50 but over 18 with no conditions were in the same group - the last one. And it doesn't filter down automatically by age (haven't checked recently though so could be wrong)

User27aw · 17/02/2021 13:13

There are articles in The Times and Telegraph over the last couple of days that its been decided that the under 50s with by done in age order in 5 year age bands.

That seems most sensible imo Although, I presume once the vaccines are done for group 9 it’ll be pretty much back to the beginning to get 2nd jabs done so quite a wait anyway?!
NotGenerationAlpha · 17/02/2021 13:39

It might be left to the GP's discretion in that last group? My GP surgery has a facebook post saying they are doing the 14-65 vulnerable group. As it's a very large group, they are working down the age order. That make sense as it's one of the easiest way to sort the list. If it's not age, then it'll be surname, day of birth (not year, so Jan - Dec). Basically anything that can be sorted by a computer. It'll not be via occupation unless you can be easily done via your place of work, like the NHS or care home. It's too complicated.

Eastie77 · 17/02/2021 13:53

I would gladly give up my 'spot' in the vaccine queue to a teacher of any age. I do not understand why they were not prioritised to begin with. I think they should have been offered jabs before or at the same time as people in care homes. I'm sure I'll be labelled a Granny Killer for holding such a heinous opinion. However I've heard many elderly people have said they'd prefer younger people and front line workers were protected before them.

I think this is a good idea - do you have a link at all?
Abraxan · 17/02/2021 14:05

Now I've been called up (CV group 6) to have mine next week I'm wondering when dh will be done - 47y and no health conditions.

I don't think how they do it after group 9 will affect him too much tbh.
He's a 'key worker' and a lot of his clients are elderly and/or vulnerable so if they go that route you'd have hoped he'd be within it. If they do it via ages he will be the next group down.

Dd is 18y but doing a teaching degree. If they use occupation it maybe that she gets here's before a face to face placement, I like her friends who are nursing students are starting to get called for theirs before their placements start.

Actually - ignore me - I found a link. Behind a paywall but the summary bit gives the gist anyway:
