Does anyone else now find certain phrases extremely irritating?

I don't mean the new Covid phrases like "social distancing", "new normal" etc although reading the word "masks" makes me really cross for some reason even though I am fully behind and adhere to mask wearing etc

For some reasons phrases like "fed up", "had enough", "end of my tether" make me feel furious! Not because I don't empathise because I absolutely, completely do (I'm not angry because I'm one of those scathing race to the bottom posters, more the opposite)

Maybe it's the frustration and feeling of impotence of not being able to help those who similarly feel fed up etc etc as I do? And that empathising with other posters makes me feel my same feelings more acutely?

I don't know! But I've found I read many threads any more because I feel so stressed and irritated even though I'm completely with the posters and agree with them

OP posts:

Safe! I'm sick of that word. Nothing is safe in life. We all take risks everyday and don't even think about it.

Thrown under the bus! Teachers are the only profession to have been thrown under the bus. Children have been thrown under the bus if they are at school. Likewise, they have been thrown under the bus if they're not at school. Bastard buses!

WomenAreBornNotWorn · 17/02/2021 06:40

"Because now,more than ever..." Angry

HungryForSnacks · 17/02/2021 06:41

"Terrifying"

There was a thread on MN the other day where everyone just used the word 'terrifying'

I don't disagree with them but I'm so sick of that word now

GnomeOrMistAndIceGuy · 17/02/2021 06:41

We have a total busybody on our local FB page who comments "stay home, save lives" on Every. Sodding. Post. where people are asking if the vet, key cutter, etc. is open. We KNOW we're supposed to stay home, dickhead, but perhaps the OP would like his pet to get better or access to his front door!!

jane5621 · 17/02/2021 06:48

'Daily walk' (esp on facebook)... I was out on my daily walk while I saw some children playing out. Shoot the parents! As though it is the law that you have to go on a walk daily!
Stay safe. I work in retail and I hear this about 20 times a day!

EssentialHummus · 17/02/2021 06:56

The one that gets me is “rip through”. I have no idea why but I see it all the time. This virus doesn’t spread - it “rips”.

Yep. It's the covid version of "crusty bread", "lashings of butter" etc around here.

"Covid safe" seems frankly Orwellian to me. Well done, you put some signs up and implemented a one-way system in your school/coffee shop/hospital. Covid is mightily impressed and now won't come in.

GalesThisMorning · 17/02/2021 07:01

"I'm done" - you're not
"We're going to have to learn to live with it" - we have been living with it since it began

felineflutter · 17/02/2021 09:17

Enough

felineflutter · 17/02/2021 09:20

Yes to Global Pandemic! I have had to let that one go now as even scientists can't enough of it.

sunflowertulip · 17/02/2021 09:52

Agree with the 'on my/its knees', totally overused, and 'school aren't closed' whenever someone discusses with they may reopen - they are closed to most children.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 17/02/2021 09:58

“this disease” really irritates me. Also Covidiot, normally uttered by a daily mail reader and daily walk/exercise, usually on social media from people who have never taken a walk in their lives pre COVID. It’s just a walk, not a prescription!

AnxiousAlpaca · 17/02/2021 10:08

Stay the fuck home Angry
Not in the spirit of the guidance AngryAngry
And anyone (when discussing potential good news) then feels the need to chime if with, “Well I’m sorry but we’re in this for the long haul I’m afraid” (or any sort of variant around that) as if they’re the definitive source of knowledge Grin

idontlikealdi · 17/02/2021 10:16

'Stay safe' as email sign off. Even worse the an people saying it.

Silenceisgolden20 · 17/02/2021 10:35

Don't think there's anything irritating about saying fed up. It's the best phrase to use when you're fed up with the situation but not dramatising it?

We're all in this together. That's irritating.
We're not.

SpringtimeBluebells · 17/02/2021 10:36

@Beaniecats

Long covid Think everyone has it
This....
SpringtimeBluebells · 17/02/2021 10:37

Schools aren't closed......well they are to the majority of children

practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 17/02/2021 10:41

The buses everyone is getting thrown under did they have to wait ages then 3 came at once?

Rosehip10 · 17/02/2021 10:51

"I'm DONE with this!"

WhatHoJeeves · 17/02/2021 10:57

Shit storm - just a horrible phrase
Give your head a wobble - what??
Do one - what??

Any variation of 'I'm done', 'Enough' etc

Any thread asking questions which no one can answer followed by a million posts giving guesses and everyone getting angry at everyone else's guesses.

WhatHoJeeves · 17/02/2021 11:00

Oh, and anything written in capitals or worse, capitals with a full stop between each word eg STOP. IT. NOW.

likeamillpond · 17/02/2021 11:21

People who don't bother looking after themselves accusing those who do of being
Health Privilaged
I've. worked bloody hard to stay within a healthy BMI. It's tough as he'll.
Privilege has got sod all do do with it.
I've not had an easy past, which I don't want to go into on here, so I suppose I could just give in and blame everything and everybody else for my actions.
But I like to take personal responsibility for my life choices, as do lots of others
and I don't see why I should be made to feel guilty for it.
I've only heard the term used as a jealous type of insult since Covid.
So hopefully it'll die a death soon.

Another one

Stay Safe
Makes me wanna hurl.

VicBen · 17/02/2021 11:26

Yes, 'staycation'! Since when has going on holiday in the UK been called a staycation? It's just going on holiday! It's as if only foreign holidays now count as a 'proper' holiday.

StealthPolarBear · 17/02/2021 11:45

Completely agree with
X group are on their knees

ssd · 17/02/2021 11:50
