Which vaccine should I choose?

Serendipity09 · 16/02/2021 12:26

I have just been sent the link for my Covid vaccine, I'm 44 but have underlying health problems and am a carer.
I wasn't expecting to be given the choice about which vaccine to choose before I book!
So now I have no idea....initially I was all for the more natural Oxford vaccine as opposed to the synthetically made Pfizer vaccine, but now studies seem to show that Pfizer is more effective?
I do have allergies, not severe, but moderate I would say - although that doesn't seem to be so much of a worry with Pfizer now?
I really didn't mind which one I was having, just felt pleased to be having it, but now I've been given the choice, I feel anxious about it!!
Any wise words please?

I know, from posters here and working in gp surgeries in real life that choices come via venues, and they aren't consistent. So it isn't impossible to get a choice, especially if you live close to a few centres.

But it is not going to be a good idea to get hung up on getting a specific vaccine.

Londonnight · 16/02/2021 17:57

Had mine today, AZ, I wasn't given any choice as to which vaccine.

Notsureaboutmuch · 16/02/2021 18:01

Is the option to select which vaccine preemptive of the 2nd does being rolled out and people needing their second dose of the one they have already had?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 16/02/2021 18:04

For some.it will be. The research into mix and match isn't complete yet!

You definitely cannot choose which vaccine:

Erm, you definitely can where I live (Yorkshire) - I had to chose which one I wanted.

SooMoony · 16/02/2021 18:07

I've had my first and second vaccinations (NHS nurse), both Pfizer. I have also had the Kent variant of Covid-19 so I should be super immune. I hope so.

Personally I wouldn't get too hung up on which vaccine to have, should you be given the choice. Just get vaccinated.

CoffeeandCroissant · 16/02/2021 18:39

@Laaaaa

Why would people not believe the op?
Wasn't disbelieving, more a case of being nosy/curious and finding it interesting that some people were being offered a choice. (Thanks for posting screenshot OP).

Also, slightly concerned that it may just confuse people or put them off/delay them booking, but hopefully not...

I also agree with pp that "Personally I wouldn't get too hung up on which vaccine to have, should you be given the choice. Just get vaccinated."

Whichjab · 16/02/2021 18:42

I'm another that can choose and tbh I'd rather hoped this thread would have been about why people would choose the one they did rather than troll hunting.
Op may I ask why you chose Pfizer

Whichjab · 16/02/2021 18:44

But there appears to be a lot of information saying the Pfizer one is better, people are always on here asking which car/car seat/dog etc i think questioning it if you have a choice is perfectly valid.

CloudsAway · 16/02/2021 19:01

Anyone been offered a choice in Cambridge?
Or had the Pfizer in the last week/next week? (I know it was available before the end of January, but I'm wondering about since)

StrikeWhileTheCoffeeIsHot · 16/02/2021 19:05

@Whichjab (know I'm not the OP) but also could choose where to go and therefore which jab to have. I went with Oxford .... because the coin landed on 'tails' Blush

I did do a lot of research but it seemed there was pros and cons for both.. so I left it to fate.

StarCat2020 · 16/02/2021 19:24

Fake as fake can be.

StarCat2020 · 16/02/2021 19:25

Please tell me you didn't click a link in an email.

Frazzled2207 · 16/02/2021 19:29

Looks a bit odd to me but op I hope I’m wrong and you get the vaccine

StarCat2020 · 16/02/2021 19:29

Can I just say NEVER EVER click a link in an email unless you are expecting it and have verified the sender's email address is the one that you would expect.

doireallyneedaname · 16/02/2021 19:32

@StarCat2020 OP has already spoken to her GP to verify her appointment.

MabelWotsits · 16/02/2021 19:40

It's not fake. DH could choose. He had his yesterday and choose Astra Zeneca.

IndecentFeminist · 16/02/2021 19:42

The OP has already clarified that she has spoken with her surgery and all is above board

Lemonsyellow · 16/02/2021 19:45

It’s valid. Different venues have different vaccines. I also don’t know anyone who was given an appointment for their second dose when they had their first. Every single one has been told to wait to be contacted again.

loobylou10 · 16/02/2021 19:47

I got my second appointment as I was leaving my first. 12 weeks time, same day same time.

CrackOpenTheGin · 16/02/2021 19:51

Pfizer is by far and away the better vaccine. It seems to be standing up better against the SA strain and the trials were much better done. Oxford made a bit of a pigs ear of their trials with half doses accidentally given and all sorts. Plus the Pfizer general protection seems to be better.

I was determined to have the Pfizer and asked for that when I booked in with no problems.

Good luck!! Mine is this week too and I can’t wait!

StarCat2020 · 16/02/2021 19:51

Did your DH have the same style of screen when he booked

WombatChocolate · 16/02/2021 19:53

My first thought was it was some kind of fake website too.....that it might try to lure people towards it and not towards the real ones by offering a choice.

StarCat2020 · 16/02/2021 19:54

@StarCat2020 OP has already spoken to her GP to verify her appointment
OK but my advice about email links still stands.

WombatChocolate · 16/02/2021 19:55

I’d rather have no choice. Otherwise aid choose and later wish air had the other one......I’m like this whatever I choose from a restaurant menu, and this would be even worse for me. I’d do far better just to be allocated, and I think most people, would prefer not to choose/do t know enough to choose sensibly, so why be given a choice at all?
