Anyone had the vaccine after having had Covid?

So just 3 weeks after testing positive for Covid I just got my text inviting me to book my vaccine.

I know the official advice is to wait 4 weeks from testing positive before having the vaccine. I've also seen sources like the Zoe symptom tracker saying wait 3 months.

I do want the vaccine as I would like some protection against other variants and I absolutely don't want to go through the level of illness I've just been through. I'm only just starting to recover.

Has anyone had the vaccine post Covid? How long was your gap between illness and vaccination? I know if you've had Covid the side effects can be worse and I'm not sure I'm strong enough again yet to feel ill again.

Following in the hope that someone answers you , sorry I don't know

my mum did but there was about two months between her testing positive and having the vaccine

I don’t know how to look up my own thread but I posted the exact same thing a couple of weeks ago. About 20 people replied I think.

I had covid in dec and the Pfizer vaccine at the end of jan. I felt extremely tired after the jab for a couple of days but then was fine after.

Ladyface · 15/02/2021 19:49

There was a three month gap for me and one month for my colleague. We both had side effects that lasted a day, then absolutely fine.

Lindy2 · 15/02/2021 19:52

ilikebooksandplants that's good to know that you just felt tired. That doesn't sound too bad at all.

poppycat10 how did your mum feel after her vaccination?

Before getting Covid I'd have been so thrilled to get my vaccine invitation. I was literally counting down the likely wait. Now I'm working out how long I should delay it for - that's not something I ever expected to be doing.

Someone I know had the lateral flow test - negative. The doctors they went to did the other test too. As the lateral flow was negative they gave them the jab. 2 days later they got a positive PRC test. Was ill with Covid but not too bad. They have recovered now and this was just after Christmas.

My colleague had Covid back in March well suspected anyway as there wasn't testing available at the time. They were very poorly after the jab and got every side effect going.

It's all rather hit and miss.

WolfHunter · 15/02/2021 19:54

Sorry I should add my colleague felt better after 48 hours. But as I said it was suspected, they have other conditions hence why they have had the jab.

Lindy2 · 15/02/2021 19:54

Ladyface that's good to know that the 1 month gap didn't lead to worse side effects. How ill was your colleague with Covid? I was pretty rough. I managed at home but it was grim.

I'm currently working in COVID vaccine bookings and were not allowed to book you if you've tested positive in the last 28 days

Icequeen01 · 15/02/2021 20:03

I had my first Covid jab yesterday 32 days after testing positive. I was pretty poorly with Covid and had to go to A&E as my oxygen levels dropped quite low.

I only found out on Friday that I was now eligible for the vaccine. I work in an SEN residential school so we now come under social care. 12 of our 17 staff caught Covid in the middle of January. We had to close our school. Everyone member of staff now has their jab booked.

I had the Oxford AZ jab and I did wake up in the middle of the night with a bit of a temp, aching limbs and a raging headache. Paracetamol helped and although I am still feeling as though I've got a flu bug today it is nothing like how ill I felt with Covid and I know that by tomorrow I will hopefully be back to normal.

ilovebagpuss · 15/02/2021 20:06

I’ve had the vaccine a few months after my second bout of Covid. Didn’t have much in the way of a reaction just a sore arm and a bit tired. That was the Oxford vaccine. Loads of people I work with had it after having Covid a few felt fluey for a couple of days.
We were advised to wait 4 weeks as previous post advises.

BoogleMcGroogle · 15/02/2021 20:17

I had Covid last March and my vaccine (OAZ) yesterday. I woke in the night feeling fluey. Slept most of today and feel a bit brighter now. You might be fine, but I’d take a day off the next day, just in case. Seems OAZ is the most problematic for these side effects.

CharlieWeasley · 15/02/2021 20:27

I had covid last April and had the Pfizer jab in January. No side effects other than sore arm for a day.

AgathaX · 15/02/2021 20:39

Had covid last spring and still have some effects now. Had the Oxford vacc about 3 weeks ago. Felt fairly rough, fluey, for 48 hours or so. I feel it was worth it though.

ancientgran · 15/02/2021 21:02

My son had the virus just after Christmas, had the vaccination 4 weeks later, 29 days I think to be exact. He was fine, had no reaction to it at all.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 15/02/2021 21:04

I did. I waited the 4 weeks and then had it. I'm a hcp and I wanted to be sure I was vaccinated to protect my patients as well as I can.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 15/02/2021 21:05

I had Pfizer and I did feel ill for a day afterwards a bit like having COVID again flu like, fatigued, headache, muscle pain but only for 24hrs
