I had the phone call I've been waiting for desperately, I'm getting vaccinated on Thursday! I have not been able to stop crying and feel completely overwhelmed and just need to talk to someone about it. If I am offered the oxford vaccine will it stop me from getting sick enough to go into hospital if I catch covid? the messages about it in the media have been really mixed so far. Also it's in my married name and I have no I.D in the married name, will they ask for it? Will there be lots and lots of other people there? I've barely left my house since March and have agoraphobia so the whole experience is going to be quite scary for me too.

I could really use some reassurance, have no one I can really talk to about this in real life and just feel completely overwhelmed, don't know what's wrong with me!

Ooh I hope I get a sticker! Grin. I am feeling so strange about it, I've been waiting for this for such a long time. I think all the negative press about the oxford vaccine has worried me a bit but all I want is to have a better chance of surviving covid, even if I still catch it or get side effects etc, as long as I can get to watch my kids grow up nothing else matters.

Have been vaccinated as a carer in a nursing home, all the residents and staff had theirs about a month ago.

We had a covid outbreak in the home as an agency carer came into the home but didn't realise he was positive as no symptoms.

Most of the residents have now sadly had covid and we have lost 2 elderly patients, however they were both on their 90s with medical needs, out of 70 residents every one else has had no side effects and have just been mildly poorly.

I really do think its safe this is just from my point of view, but I am so glad I had the vaccine as I have a young child.

Showchin2 · 15/02/2021 18:21

Aww beebityboo I'm so pleased for you! I've read some of your previous posts on the school threads (I'm in a similar position but not so cv) and had so much sympathy for the situation you found yourself in. Brilliant news!!! 👍

BettyBooth · 15/02/2021 18:21

@Beebityboo

I'm not upset, just feel like I needed the release of a good cry! It's been such a scary period and I've literally been on edge since last March, barely left the house, developed insomnia etc. Feels like the possibility of having some semblance of a life has come back!
I get you, op. It's overwhelming and a happy surprise all rolled in to one.

I booked mine online and had the jab last Monday at a chemist a
few miles from me.
Twas so easy and the people so lovely.
There was only one chap in front of me, I was escorted inside and given a form to fill in. Name, doctor's address, DoB. After filling in the form I looked up to see the chemist was already waiting for me. I was in and out in 10 mins.

I was so thrilled to be outside and seeing people that I sat in the car just mesmerised watching the high street for a while after.
Enjoy your day out op. Smile

As immunity doesn't build for three weeks I think I will be emailing the DC's head about keeping them home an extra week after (and if!) they do go back on March 8th. I've somehow managed to avoid it up until now and would be devastated if I caught it the first week they went back to school after having had the jab! Hoping the head will understand.

I didn't have to show any I'd. Just confirm my name address and phone number. Good luck. Had my first in December still waiting for the seconf

Inpersuitofhappiness · 15/02/2021 19:40

Its really overwhelming isn't it!
I have mine tomorrow. I was bumped from a higher tier of need for the jab, so I didn't think that I was going to get it for ages!

I can't believe i have 22 days until I can say with certainty this flipping virus will not kill me. So excited!! Just hoping DH and DD are safe until they can be jabbed too!

HazeyJaneII · 15/02/2021 19:49

Aw @Beebityboo....what a lovely post to read (although not you crying, obviously!)
I have seen you on many school threads, and know how hard this has all been for you. I am honestly made up for you (and now feeling a bit tearful myself!)
Good luck lovely Flowers

WhitechapelLass · 15/02/2021 19:49

Yes, after three weeks one dose will protect you from severe illness and death at a minimum so you can feel very reassured.

I have a CEV husband and the feeling of the constant worry lifting was incredible. It really did feel like a physical release. I understand how you feel.

I volunteer at a vaccination centre. It has been mostly very happy place to be. There have been a few patients who get upset that the loved one they lost did not get to the vaccination stage, and quite a lot of happy/relieved tears at the emotion of getting it. So don’t worry about being emotional if it happens.

HazeyJaneII · 15/02/2021 19:50

...you'll have to frame that sticker. (I intend to do that when ds can finally get jabbed!)

addictedtotheflats · 15/02/2021 19:53

Im not vulnerable but ive had both doses of the vaccine now (pfizer) as im a frontline health care worker, i had no reaction with either dose. Ive been working with covid day in day out for the past year and by wearing correct PPE havent caught it. Id advise wearing and FFP3 and visor or goggles if you can get hold of them and dispose of straight away.

PurpleWh1teGreen · 15/02/2021 21:47

I’m a vaccine nurse and have met lots of overly people in the past few weeks who are emotional about being vaccinated, so you are not alone by any means.

I think for people who have being shielding or missing grandchildren, the hope offered by the vaccine is an incredible thing.

I hope it goes smoothly OP.

Beebityboo · 17/02/2021 10:02

Thank you all for being so nice and allowing me to have my mini-meltdown the other day Grin. I felt much better after some gin, a shower cry and a long sleep! Was quite cathartic really.
As I have been offered the vaccine do you think I will now be added to the expanded shielding list? I always thought it was quite surprising I wasn't on the original list. Haven't heard anything so far.

My husband had his first vaccine last night, we were nervous all day, only had a light meal, as we couldn’t eat much. He didn’t need to take anything. He struggles with hearing as there were quite a few different people being booked in, so I’m glad I went with him. We were early but it didn’t matter. In and out 25 minutes. No sticker, all very smooth, safe and efficiently run. It was nice to actually go somewhere outside our village.

Beebityboo · 18/02/2021 12:31

Well it's over with. Had the Pfizer and cried like an absolute baby. Little bit embarassed but oh well. Hoping for no side effects but the whole process felt so safe and simple. Staff were absolute heroes.

christinarossetti19 · 18/02/2021 12:37

That's great Beebitytoo.

I've also seen you on lots of school threads and have an idea how hard this has all been for you and your family.

You're into your end game!

Hope that you don't have any side effects and roll on dose 2 and spring Daffodil.

Mindymomo · 18/02/2021 15:15

Good glad it went ok. My DH also had the Pfizer vaccine, he had a really sore arm all day after and ached for 24 hours. He feels fine today, just arm is still a bit sore.

Toorapid · 18/02/2021 15:17

I had to provide 2 forms of ID and the letter inviting me for the vaccine. Definitely worth taking plenty of ID with you, but I'm sure marriage certificate plus other ID will be fine.

Cookerhood · 18/02/2021 15:34

I booked on the phone (119). They just asked me for my name when I got there & ticked me off on their list. No ID needed.

lorisparkle · 18/02/2021 15:58

I needed ID but that was because I got the vaccine due to my job rather than being personally invited, however my parents did not need anything because they were personally invited due to their age

Whilst no vaccine can be perfect I would rather have the level of protection it offers than the risk of COVID .

Beebityboo · 18/02/2021 18:00

I wasn't asked for my ID but had taken it as a precaution. I feel ok at the moment, not even a sore arm which I always get with flu, but due to how debilitating my anxiety is right now I'll probably spend the next couple of days waiting to have some horrible side effect/scared I caught covid at the vaccination centre etc. I'm so bloody grateful though and I wasn't the only one crying with relief.

Darkbrownistheriver · 18/02/2021 18:11

Hi op. Glad it went well. I work for a GP and have been up at our COVID vaccine clinic today inputting the vaccines on the computer. I had mine a few weeks ago - also Pfizer - and all I got was a sore arm for 2 or 3 days. I think younger people tend to have more of a reaction as their immune systems are stronger. I have to say working at the clinics is a very positive experience - most people are just really happy to be getting their jabs!

Lurkingforawhile · 18/02/2021 18:13

I cried too when I got my vaccine appointment. It was a couple of weeks earlier than expected and just such good news! I was a bit surprised at my own reaction. It was so very efficient and all done very quickly

Yellowmellow2 · 18/02/2021 18:18

I get it OP. It was such a shock when I got the call, even though I was expecting it. My over-riding emotion was gratitude. How lucky are we that we can just turn up and be given this precious vaccine for free. God bless the NHS.

Beebityboo · 18/02/2021 18:23

Yes when the secretary called to ask if I wanted her to book an appointment for me I half squeaked half sobbed "yes please" Grin. I'm not always so fragile and have had twenty five surgeries so far in my life and I never cried but I did today. I don't think nurses have ever had so many people so happy to get injected before!
