hi all,

anyone had an experience or similar? poorly 1 year old, runny bowel movements, temperature of 39.5, fast breathing. spoke to 111 who referred me to my gp. had a call from them and they said because she is displaying possible symptoms they cant see her so the first point of call is now "the COVID team" nd they will ring this afternoon. I said does that mean 1 year old will be having a test and the gp said they dont know.

firstly, if 1 year old is displaying one of the 3 symptoms why wouldnt they have a test? partner is self employed so if we are going to isolate which we currently are I would like to know either way as current guidelines on nhs state if negative test then no longer have to isolate aslong as the rest of us do not develop symptoms. as someone who is self employed, even a few days makes a difference.

secondly, if not for a test what do "the COVID team" actually do??

little bit confused and concerned for my little one!

Could you book a test for your baby?
Yes if it comes back negative you can stop isolating

BorisandHarriet · 15/02/2021 12:28

How fast is your baby breathing? The high temp and breathing would worry me, covid or not. I hope she is ok and you get a call very soon.

Hi OP, I'm not sure I can help much as I don't know who the COVID team are but wanted to tell you my one year old granddaughter was ill a few weeks back with the symptoms you describe. She never had a test, although she could have had one, as both parents became ill within the next couple of days and as they both tested positive it was assumed my GD must have also been positive. Her parents were understandably very worried made worse by the fact that due to distancing she had never been ill before. I saw her through the window and over video calls during this time and tbh although she was poorly she didn't seem any worse than I remember my own children being when they picked up various bugs as toddlers. She was treated with Calpol, cuddles, fluid, rest and In The Night Garden playing on repeat and soon bounced back (about 3 or 4 days). I hope you get your call soon

still none the wiser - not had a phone call yet and as I dont know who the COVID team are not sure who I would contact if they dont get in touch. I know there is a pandemic of course but its quite poor practice if I dont hear from them - it was 111 who said they wanted her to be checked over so I will be quite cross if I'm left with no information

Hi OP! My nearly 1 year old recently came down with a fever and bad tummy. Called GP but as they don't accept patients with possible COVID symptoms (fever in our case), they referred us to another GP surgery nearby and we were seen straight away. We had to arrange our own COVID test, they didn't swab DS at the doctors office, so I expect you'd be told the same? As in go to the government website and book a test for your LO.

Giraffaelina · 15/02/2021 14:34

Also, you can book that test whenever, you don't need to wait for anyone to call you for that. I think the call would be just to see if LO needs to be seen in person by anyone. 🤞

got the phone call, they said it sounds like a tummy bug and she should be over the worst of it within a few days. I asked if we need to isolate because of her temperature and was told I shouldnt think so, it's very unlikely to be COVID and if the rest of you are feeling okay then you should be fine

Its crazy how different the advice is compared to the nhs website and that was from someone who works at a COVID hub..

feel a bit better now I've spoken to someone and little ones temp has gone right down. me and my partner are going to do a rapid test each this evening just to cover that base

Personally I'd do a test to be sure. You don't need their permission. She has a covid symptom.

strawberrypip · 15/02/2021 16:00

me and my partner are going to do one. I have followed the rules but it's no wonder not everyone takes it seriously when someone who works in a COVID hub tells you there is no need to isolate because it's likely a tummy bug
