Has anyone had a routine hospital appointment during lockdown?

I’ve got a pelvic scan at my local hospital next week, it’s a follow up from a scan I had in the summer.
I know the hospitals do all they can with regards to infection control etc but as a severe anxiety sufferer I am getting myself worked-up about the appointment and risk of Covid especially as my poor neighbour went into the same hospital a fortnight ago following a fall and tragically contracted Covid and passed away last week.
It’s taking place in the gynae department so obviously not on a ward but I’m still very anxious.
Has anyone had a routine scan appointment during this recent lockdown? How did it go?

I’ve had a kidney scan, the whole process was excellent. There were staff on all the doors stopping anyone without an appointment entering. I was the only person in the waiting area. It felt far safer than the supermarket.

I'm having a gastroscopy next week. This is a pre surgery proceedure. I've been waiting for the appointment as part of the surgery process since the end of the year. (2020)

Sorry posted too soon. I think the biggest worry right now is you bringing it in. I have an appointment for a covid test before my appointment.

@EffIt

Did you get a leaflet with your appointment letter telling you what to expect? I had 3x appointments booked in early January but cancelled them as I was sheilding & at that time there was all the talk of the new strain. Rebooked for this month & had first scan just over a week ago. They were sanitising chairs, the hand gel bottles - everything. The waiting room I was in was small with 1 other person. I walked through to the department then had to answer a few covid related questions before I got to reception. I didn't need to change into a gown (this had been a big worry for me). I was due a blood test a couple of days later at my doctors so I asked if they could do it there as they have a walk in for bloods in the same department. There were about 5 people waiting all very spaced out, however I heard all the nurses complaining about a young lad who turned up for his appointment despite having tested positive for covid. That was nerve racking to say the least!!

When I got home I took off all my clothes as soon as I got in the door & put everything in a carrier bag. Washed my hands then got a shower & washed my hair, then I wiped down everything I'd taken & washed my clothes. All of that may have been overkill but it made me feel better. Also I've been watching Real Housewives of Dallas & one of them is a hospital doctor & she said she does the same thing!

I have another scan at a different hospital this week & a third a few days after that so I'm hoping it all goes smoothly. Have a look online for the patient leaflets if you didn't get one.

My neighbour works in the hospital and told me to do the same, take my clothes off as soon as I get home and wash them. She says she does that as soon as she comes home from work each day.

I've had a mammogram, various scans, a day procedure in theatre, all fine.
I've also had a filling, obviously not in hospital but an appointment where you can't wear a mask.
I'm having more ongoing problems from an issue that happened when my local hospital would not see me due to lockdown.

I did not take off my clothes and wash them the moment I got home from any hospital appointment, I don't do that after a supermarket visit.

I take my own hand gel and clean masks in case I need them, I've never had to replace my cloth mask with one that they supply, which pleases me as the masks are a huge environmental issue. Not that the pandemic itself isn't a huge issue but if I can avoid using plastic masks I will.
Got another hospital appointment this week. I think that brings the total to 15 or 16 so it feels quite routine to me.
Good luck OP.

I had an appointment. Private hospital. Issue with my hip. I was with the consultant for about 15 minutes. Both wearing masks.

My husband also sees same consultant. Found out he had covid 3 days after my appointment.

We all had horrible tummies over Christmas and yew year. Didn't eat anything. Felt horrible but no other symptoms. If I'd Knowsley at the time about the consultant I would have been tested. Only found out in early feb. But it got me thinking. Guess we'll never know. I wasn't tracked and traced.

Yes, I've had 3 hospital appointments plus one face to face GP this last year
All very well organised( one way system, Ppe etc)
At the hospital I waited in the car park, they rang for me to go straight in

BettyOBarley · 15/02/2021 16:25

Yes I had a gynae scan. The hospital was absolutely dead and I was straight in and out.

Andorra155 · 15/02/2021 19:43

My son has (I accompanied him) and we also had to visit A&E last week (same child but different issue). He was admitted for an emergency op and we stayed in one night. I've never known the hospital to be so quiet. I felt very safe at all times. Only thing that I thought was bit off was they covid tested my son in A&E but not me. They knew at that point we would be staying in.

I’ve had at least 6 appointments during lockdown one of which was a colonoscopy. I was nervous on my very first appointment at the beginning of lockdown last year but since then each one has become easier.

I’ve felt extremely safe during my appointments, temp check going in, hands washed and sanitised, masks etc I haven’t caught Covid in all this time, so for me I’m reassured that everything is being done to make it as safe an environment as possible.

Good luck with your scan & I hope all goes well Flowers

I broke my ankle in 3 places and had to have surgery so I had a 4 day stay and then several follow up appointments to get casts changed and have x rays, wound checks etc. I felt very safe every time, masks were provided if you didn't have one, loads of hand sanitizer available, everyone stays well distanced.

VerbenaGirl · 15/02/2021 19:59

Yes, my teen had to go for some follow up x-rays and blood tests for an ongoing issue and it was absolutely fine. It was much less busy than normal, really well segregated and really strict hygiene measures were in place. I was a bit apprehensive, but found it very reassuring.

YetAnotherWalk · 15/02/2021 21:10

I had a scan in gynae in the November lock down and it was very quick in and out, me and her masked and they have to clean everything down. Back again this week and envisage it being similar.

Hope it goes well for you.

FebFrosting · 15/02/2021 21:15

I have. 8 people on waiting room spaced out. 20 min wait and then was seen and straight out.
