2nd vaccination

Wales, as of tomorrow, are beginning to give the 2nd vaccine to the first people. This will be given at 10weeks allowing 2 weeks for any delays rather than starting at 12weeks and people potentially having 2nd dose later than 12 weeks. Sounds sensible, any idea if this is happening in other parts of UK?

@Muchtoomuchtodo

Some second doses in Wales are being brought forward.

My friends was booked for 11 weeks, now it’s 7.

I have no idea why, I thought the idea was to get as many people as possible injected with their first doses.....

I wonder if they're they're Pfizer which works better against the new variants when administered as advised?
Muchtoomuchtodo · 16/02/2021 19:24

@PrincessNutNuts, 7 weeks is still not was was advised though!

It’s as if those who have received their first doses are now in some kind of Russian roulette of when they might get their second doses. If this turns into a study that they’ve not consented to be in there could be some very upset people I think.

It's closer to the 6 weeks Pfizer said might be ok though isn't it? That's what I was thinking, anyway.

The whole bloody thing is one big experiment. I don't think any other country on earth is taking this gamble with the lives of their citizens.

I think they changed the booking system. When my Aunty booked earlier in the year, she could only book one vaccine. My mum & dad however had to book both vaccines at the sans time recently. 10 weeks apart.

Also, if you had the vaccine via a GP & not the online booking system, they also don’t all seem to have sorted second vaccine bookings.

Plutoh · 16/02/2021 21:16

@PrincessNutNuts

I booked Auntie's online and this is what it said. My parents got a similar message. As far as I know none of the family who've had a first jab know when their second one is yet.
If you booked for a hub via the online like it gave the chance to book the second vaccination when booking the first. For those who had it at a GP hub, I imagine they will contact people X weeks before they're due and invite them to book an app.

@PrincessNutNuts you really are nut nuts

DinosaurDiana · 16/02/2021 21:21

I don’t and neither does my mum, nor my MIL who is house bound.

Frazzled2207 · 16/02/2021 21:48

my parents are in wales, they had pfizer 2 weeks ago and have not been given a date yet.
Indeed it seems some people have dates but from what I can gather most don't.
Hope the vaccine supply increases so they can do all these alongside sorting out all the group 5s and 6s

You are being way to kind

And I am way to tired this week to deal with the drip feeding one

Dontstepinthecowpat · 16/02/2021 23:50

My second dose has been brought forward by 4 weeks, this will mean 8 weeks between doses (Scotland)

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 17/02/2021 00:37

I'm in London - my 2nd appointment is 11 weeks after the first one.

I chose to book online through the NHS central system because my GPs seemed so vague even about booking the first appointment.
GP practice called me to say I could book, the second sentence was 'oh no you can't, you tested positive' (no How are you?) then they advised to call back in a week - not able to make an appointment for the following week Hmm

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum on one thread @PrincessNutNuts elderly relatives across 8 counties hasn’t even been asked to go for a jab. On another, one relative was in hospital with suspected Covid after a first jab. On this one her relatives haven’t been given a date for a second jab - which of course is far too late, despite the scientific evidence suggesting otherwise. I can’t keep up. Wink

It was the day I spotted her on the vaccination count down thread that did it for me. I had spent the previous evening arguing with her about thel vaccination program. Apparently vaccines were dangerous. So glad my argument was so convincing she changed her mind 😉😂

I am an NHS worker in Wales. I received my second dose yesterday, 6 weeks after my first (Pfizer). Originally we were told 12 weeks, but have now all been moved forward.

Frazzled2207 · 17/02/2021 09:57

@Happyface120
that's really good to hear. Do you think that will apply to everyone that had Pfizer? My parents had their first 2 weeks ago
