Do the measures work, or is it luck that you haven’t caught Covid?

Just that really...

Do the masks, distancing, ventilation all really work?

Is it just pure luck that you haven’t caught it, or is it that you haven’t actually been In contact with a positive case.

SO many people I know who have tested positive, swear they don’t know how they caught it.
Swear that they’ve distanced, worn a mask, washed hands etc, but still caught Covid.

So do the measures actually work?

It raises the question, is Covid in the air? Or do you have to have been around a positive person?

We caught it from my sons nursery. His bubble broke the week before Christmas. You can't really expect a 3 year old to socially distance. Luckily we either all had it mildly or asymptomatic.

Pure luck that I haven't had it. Been back at work since June last year, using public transport, and often having to have consultations in rooms that are not properly ventilated with people who give zero fucks about the rules. Haven't had so much as a frog in my throat and immensely grateful for that.

I suppose it's conceivable I had it and was asymptomatic but I guess I'm unlikely to ever know.

I dunno. I'm a front line sw. We didn't have any ppe for ages and we have been going into homes and offices throughout lockdown.

I haven't had it. Little kids climb on me and I hold babies.

Covid positive tests across my service are very low. Ironically a colleague tested positive after getting a track and trace -after getting the jab in the days in between and being close to half the dept at the jab place....but I digress.

The places springing the most infection in my area that I'm aware of (by no means representative) is day nurseries. By that I mean adult staff. One closed today and about her has closed several times.

I've had a track and trace from a restaurant.

Our school didn't have a single positive test. Nothing in the lockdown either.

I think hand washing is the most important thing.

Boredsobored · 16/02/2021 00:06

I think most people catch it in workplaces or hospitals - so if someone has had it that's probably where they've got it from.

I'm not really including schools though as generally children aren't spreading it as much as adults plus measures are stricter to self isolate/prove positive test/ can remove if high temperature etc plus handwashing and cleaning is more enforced. God help me if I'd been working in an office, never cleaned at the best of times.

Hand, face, space - it all works but sometimes bad luck is a factor like any illness

I haven’t had it since March, BUT I think I had it in Feb last year so have some immunity. Will never know if that’s the case as testing wasn’t a thing then. I did an antibody test which was negative in June, but that doesn’t really tell me anything!

I was pretty lax during first lockdown - saw family (legally as I’m a single parent), travelled 4 times when restrictions were lifted, didn’t wear mask. Didn’t catch it. During this lockdown, I’ve been very strict and mainly stay at home except one weekly supermarket shop. I go out for walks when I can be arsed. Haven’t caught it.

I live in an area that has how low numbers for most of the time and the outbreaks were hospital and nursing home type places in the main.
Secondary with over 2000 kids - the school sent a letter out the 2 times that someone tested positive and it was in the family and didn't spread in the school. Bubbles didn't burst, school carried on ok but was shut anyway with the rest. Now only 10% of children in at present. The ones in are test using LFT and no positives although 2 teachers tested positive in January none of the children were positive. Only a small number of teachers are actually 'in school' the rest are WFH for the rest of the children who are at home.

Low population area. Housing more spread in the main. No Universities so not a huge number of students from other parts of the country bringing it in. Rural area.

Some luck and to be honest most people wear masks, SD and don't hear of large parties/weddings etc so appears most following most rules....
