Why Boris thinks it’s appropriate to tell a newspaper before the nation, fuck knows.

TokyoSushi · 13/02/2021 23:05

That's the way it seems to go nowadays, brief it out to the papers, see how it goes down and then announce a pretty close version of what's being reported.

I suppose we'll see seen enough, the media will be in an absolute frenzy by this time next week!

noblegiraffe · 13/02/2021 23:06

This is how the government makes announcements. Avoiding parliamentary scrutiny.

Dahlietta · 13/02/2021 23:09

Telegraph is reporting it won't be secondaries back on the 8th of March. Who knows?

FFS. Total communications shambles as usually.

Finger's crossed
I've accepted every school closure but this must be the last time now.

PinkPiranha11 · 13/02/2021 23:24

Telegraph is the Tory paper of choice... if it’s in the Telegraph is probably true.

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 13/02/2021 23:29

It was already in the papers yesterday, saw it in the i.
inews.co.uk/news/politics/lockdown-end-when-government-plans-roadmap-reopen-pubs-shops-schools-uk-travel-covid-rules-870809

Schools due to be back on 8th March - as has been said was the aim all along, if the numbers are low enough.

RedGoldAndGreene · 13/02/2021 23:30

It's not on Peston's Twitter feed yet so fuck knows which version is true.

idontlikealdi · 13/02/2021 23:34

Peston is the mouthpiece, not on there yet.

PickAChew · 13/02/2021 23:37

He said that when he visited the vaccine manufacturing facility in Billingham, today.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/02/2021 23:41

Sorry to deviate from schools - but are hairdressers non-essential retail?

PickAChew · 13/02/2021 23:43

Mind boggling with images of a reverse ferret, mind.

Chollok · 14/02/2021 07:23

Probably won't be sending my 5 year old back.

Hoiking · 14/02/2021 07:34

March is the 1 year mark. I think it's time to come out of this cycle of locking down. Open schools, shops, have some limits on mass gatherings (like, allow it but with masks?) and turn our attention to hospitals, where 40% of cases are caught.

They’re usually a separate category, close contact services.
namechangefail2020 · 14/02/2021 08:13

I'm confused. We have known this for a long time no?

pinkhappy · 14/02/2021 08:17

I’m confused. We have known this for a long time no?

The govt said March 8 was the earliest possible. It didn’t mean it would happen. Also, it’s still really unclear which years will go back, if any.

CovidHalloween · 14/02/2021 08:25

As long as they:
1.wait a before relaxing anything else
2.employers don’t suddenly ask all their employees to come to the office, and stay working from home

  1. People act sensibly.

Small steps big gains- otherwise we will wipe out these 10 weeks of lockdown.
Vaccinations are going great, but they are not some sort of a magic bullet as the super spreaders (the working generation) haven’t had the vaccine yet and the virus will it’s way to everyone especially the over 65s who have only had one dose and there’s a 20% chance that they haven’t got full immunity. Once the younger generation is immunised the bug will be more under control.
For now I think the gov should practise extremely caution before open anything else other than schools.

My DH wants to know this too :) I am completely talent-free when it comes to hairdressing so he can't rely on me.

Although I would like my highlights done (but will need the patch test first in any event).

Remmy123 · 14/02/2021 08:33

Yes just primary and secondary will follow shortly after.

And they should be open.. these kids have missed out so much!! Nearly a year of disrupted schooling.

Enough is enough

Remmy123 · 14/02/2021 08:34

@Chollok yeah lock the poor kid up forever.

Chollok · 14/02/2021 08:37

Remmy123

You know nothing about me, my son, our situation or our lives. Not really sure what has happened to you that you think it is acceptable to be so rude and judgemental to a complete stranger.

Homeschooling is a perfectly valid choice, for a multitude of reasons, none of which you know.

kindlekeeper · 14/02/2021 08:42

Hopefully secondary go back too. Easter holiday starts only a few weeks later so pointless if too much delay and surely that will delay anything else opening if schools are the alleged priority.
