This is just off the top of my head...

Say a vaccine was approved for children

It was going to become available on the NHS but is available to buy privately beforehand
Q&As
Would you buy it or wait? *buy it
How much would you be willing to spend? *£150 pc

Simple curiosity that's all

£120 to protect their teachers and other people they could put at risk through transmission.but we won’t have to pay. If the Government thinks that could really stop a Covid circulating by a huge amount, it will be free

Wishitsnows · 13/02/2021 20:39

I'd pay most definitely, maybe up to 500

TrainingAim · 13/02/2021 20:42

If I thought they needed it, I'd pay what it took, but I don't.

PatchworkElmer · 13/02/2021 20:45

DH and I have just discussed. £500?

Tellto · 13/02/2021 20:46

1k

HazeyJaneII · 13/02/2021 20:50

As it will have to be an annual jab it is unlikely it would be paid for in the same way a chicken pox jab would be (and this being added to vaccination programme is likely in future anyway)

My child is clinically vulnerable, so yes, I am pretty desperate for it (I would assume this would also mean we would not have to pay for it either in the same way we didn't pay for the chicken pox vaccine)

Iamclearlyamug · 13/02/2021 20:53

@DBML

I’d pay whatever it took to go abroad. £1000? I’d pay it.
Same here
CarlottaValdez · 13/02/2021 20:53

I paid for chicken pox and meningitis B I think together it came to about £500.

I’d pay that for a covid vaccine I think.

MimosaFields · 13/02/2021 20:54

I paid £500 in Boots for the HPV vaccine for my son last year. I'd pay the same for any other vaccine that was going to make his life better.

12frogsincoats · 13/02/2021 20:54

£7

PracticingPerson · 13/02/2021 20:55

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss

I think the vaccine should be available privately for adults and then children as soon as it’s confirmed suitable for them.

The more vaccinated the better, if there was a small surcharge we could raise extra funds to help recover some costs.

Private healthcare has always been available, no different.

Not in this case, because the limiting factor is production, not distribution.

That is why it is not available privately - and never should be until all public demand is satisfied.

RosesAndHellebores · 13/02/2021 20:55

My DC are 26 and 22. No underlying conditions, not obese. I'm not worried about the risks.

For those saying all vaccines are free - the flu jabs isn't if you aren't in a vulnerable category.

SeldomFollowedIt · 13/02/2021 20:55

Nothing because at the minute I’m struggling to even feed them let alone vaccinate them.

Itsokthanks · 13/02/2021 20:57

Nothing as they don't need it.

Don’t boys have the hpv vaccine to protect girls?
BungleandGeorge · 13/02/2021 21:00

There are limited supplies so I wouldn’t pay privately because it would mean someone more in need wouldn’t get it. The government have already said it won’t be available privately for this reason

Justajot · 13/02/2021 21:03

If it meant they wouldn't bring it home from school to me and DH, we'd probably pay £1k each. We wfh so our DC are our biggest risk to us from covid.

I'm not saying it's right that it should be available privately, but that's what I would pay if it was available.

rhowton · 13/02/2021 21:04

I'll pay for the vaccine once paying is available.

BlueTimes · 13/02/2021 21:06

I’d pay. Based on the likelihood of needing vaccine passports to go abroad, it’ll probably end up saving a small fortune as well for families who have several holidays a year.

Jenjenn · 13/02/2021 21:08

Well my home country (eu) government have said that the vaccine will be free for everyone in 2021 but going forward state will only pay for vulnerable to be vaccinated. Everyone else will have to pay their way. Also other of course means that it will be available privately eventually, its a business after all and the demand is there.

Spied · 13/02/2021 21:10

I'd pay whatever the cost.
If I had, or could raise the sum then I'd pay it.
I wouldn't hesitate to use my savings.

ememem84 · 13/02/2021 21:12

There’s talk where I am (Channel Islands) that once everyone over 60 has had the vaccine and all the vulnerable shielding etc. The rest of us will be made to pay for it. So a drs appointment plus vaccine. Around £45 for a gp appointment here. Plus vaccine cost.

TwigTheWonderKid · 13/02/2021 21:13

The fact is there is not enough vaccine to go round and I could never live with myself knowing I paid to give my child this privilege when 90% of people in 67 low income countries stand little chance of getting vaccinated against covid-19 in 2021 just because wealthy nations have reserved more than they need.

MessAllOver · 13/02/2021 21:17

I wouldn't pay to "jump the queue". My DS is not clinically vulnerable, is incredibly healthy and is very low risk. I would not want him to receive the vaccine ahead of a CEV child. I am not worried about him and I read posts on here about parents who have spent the last year terrified for their children.

Once the vaccine is widely available on a "commodity" basis and we're not in a pandemic situation, if it wasn't funded by the NHS, I'd probably pay £100-£200.

MixedUpFiles · 13/02/2021 21:18

I’m American and used to having to pay for medical care.
My child also has a chronic respiratory condition that makes Covid particularly frightening.

If her specialist told us it was time to get her the vaccine and our insurance wouldn’t pay for it, I would use a hefty portion of my savings to do so. I’d like to think that wouldn’t be more than $1k, but it would probably have to get to $3k before I really started thinking it might be too expensive.
