Childcare bubble popped...do we need to isolate?

My BIL has tested positive, we found out last night. DD has been in the house as part of the childcare bubble so I know she needs to isolate for 10 days. My question is do DH and I need to isolate? We haven’t been in the house with him at all. We haven’t been anywhere since we heard he has a positive test and are playing to isolate if we need to. The rules seem a bit confusing. Any advice welcome.

No you don't need to isolate, only the child. As you say, only the child should have had contact, if you have been dropping and running from 2m+ them you do not need to isolate as parents.

No, you are not a close contact, if your dd has symptoms and tests positive then you will. Otherwise it's just her isolating. Hope your bil is well again soon.

If you haven’t been within 2m for 15 mins or 1m for 1 min then you aren’t a close contact and don’t need to isolate.

If anyone in your childcare bubble develops symptoms or tests positive for coronavirus, follow the stay at home guidance.

If you share custody of your child, and you and your child’s other parent are in separate childcare bubbles, members of both bubbles should stay at home if someone in either household develops symptoms or tests positive for coronavirus.

This is critical to controlling the virus, as it will help to stop it spreading across multiple households.

If NHS Test and Trace contacts you or someone in your childcare bubble, you must follow their guidance.

That's what the government website states. Found here www.gov.uk/guidance/making-a-childcare-bubble-with-another-household

If it was a childminder or teacher who had tested positive then you wouldn’t need to isolate, just the child for 10 days from last contact as long as they’re asymptomatic. I can’t see how it being a family arrangement rather than professional changes how the virus might spread, as long as there has been no household mixing at all. The government advice does seem confusing, I assume it’s based on the likelihood that there is often some indoor contact between the adults in the bubble? But those circumstances don’t apply to you.

Yeah I’ve looked it up and it does say everyone should isolate but I’m guessing that’s assuming you’ve been in the house together? We haven’t gone in (DD has).

If anyone in your childcare bubble develops symptoms or tests positive for coronavirus, follow the stay at home guidance.

I was meant to go for a hospital test today (not urgent). I have rung and postponed. No way am I putting the staff at possible risk (work in healthcare myself). Fortunately I’m off work next week anyway and DH works from home so it won’t make a huge difference to us anyway, we may as well stay home and avoid it spreading if possible.
