They don't think we can eliminate covid, but they think we should get it low enough that an effective test and trace system can stamp out any outbreaks so we can get back to normal, as has been done in many other countries.
So, when there's an outbreak (which there will be) that industry / town / whatever is put into a temporary lockdown until they're really sure they've picked up all associated cases and dealt with it.
That way, like in many other countries, our lives could actually get back to normal.
It does rely on an effective test, trace and isolate system which we don't have and if Dido remains in charge, despite spending billions on it, seem unlikely to ever have.
It seems a lot better as a strategy than lockdown, open up, testing falls over, no proper tracing or isolating, in a few weeks cases out of control, massive death and infection, virtual collapse of NHS, lockdown again. And has been proven to result in less economic damage.
We were at the point we could have done it in the summer (but see above about fuck up of a test and trace system in the UK).
If you watch the Indie Sage meetings (all available on youtube) you can see this from them directly. No-one there has ever said they can eradicate it. But that it can be controlled with all the measures successfully implemented elsewhere. Get cases low, then effective test trace and isolate to deal with outbreaks.
