Chris Whitty has recorded a new lecture about vaccination: www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and-events/vaccination which I thought some people might find interesting.

I haven’t watched it all yet but it looks informative. He explains a bit about how vaccinations work and talks about the coronavirus vaccine amongst others.

Thank you. Bumping for you.

TheLaughingGenome · 12/02/2021 09:49

Thank you, will watch.

TheLaughingGenome · 12/02/2021 11:32

That was excellent.

It should be required watching for Johnson but he hasn't got the 58 minute attention span.

It also (inadvertently) highlights Cummings' complete idiocy over 'herd immunity', a concept which he did not understand.

everythingthelighttouches · 12/02/2021 11:34

Great! Thank you very much.

Muskox · 12/02/2021 11:36

Thanks OP! Watching it now.

Johnson but he hasn't got the 58 minute attention span
The man in charge doesn't have the ability to understand the problem 😟
Thank you for the recommendation🙏... I will watch and/or read the transcript

MarinPrime · 12/02/2021 12:58

Thanks, just watched it. Chris Whitty is so good at making complicated things understandable to non scientists.

whatisforteamum · 12/02/2021 15:23

Thank you.I watched many of his lectures.Very interesting.

Lemons1571 · 12/02/2021 15:26

We thought it was great. Adds context and realism, with zero scaremongering.

TheLaughingGenome · 12/02/2021 15:33

You can tell he cares about the global vaccination programmes a great deal. He drills home that vaccination is not 'just' about the prevention of deaths, but the prevention of millions of deaths in horrible circumstances, often terrifyingly so, and frequently of children.

A very caring, clever bloke.

SpecialToffee · 12/02/2021 15:38

Glad you all enjoyed it. I still haven’t watched it all - going to finish it this evening. His Gresham lectures are very good - there is a whole series of them going back several years, and yes he comes across as a very caring, deep thinking, intelligent man.

Just started watching it, he is excellent isn’t he. Although I’m appalled he’s no one to do his slide clicking for him!

MarinPrime · 12/02/2021 16:11

Although I’m appalled he’s no one to do his slide clicking for him!

And he does it so well! I wonder why they can't manage to click their own slides at the press conferences? You'd think the BBC would have the tech to be able to set it up.

mumwon · 12/02/2021 17:41

I have watched this - wish I had it earlier - could have attached to some of the antivaxers threads/comments

o8O8O8o · 12/02/2021 17:45

it's a long video but the transcript is a quick read if you dont have time for it😉

itallworkedouthorribly · 12/02/2021 17:59

Super

Giggorata · 12/02/2021 20:44

Thank you for this. It is so clear, kudos to Prof Whitty.

Of course, I’ve now fallen down the rabbit hole, and l'm watching everything...
the Rhythm of Life: the Beat and Dance of the Heart by Prof Martin Elliot was also fab.

SpecialToffee · 12/02/2021 21:38

Sorry @Giggorata!
