It would seem in recent days that this is now a minority group on here but there are still some of us whether you are shielding, vulnerable yourself or simply following the restrictions to protect others.
Not a pro-lockdown thread just somewhere hopefully supportive to others in the same situation while we wait for the light at the end of the tunnel.

Crap, that does not sound that sympathetic/ empathetic.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 12/02/2021 20:55

@BlackeyedSusan
We are doing the uncomfortable thing now with the long term goal in mind. Surviving this pandemic and avoiding covid transmission as we know our risk factors.

It would be easy to say I'm going to ignore but I know my risks and it's not worth it. I got a letter in the post today so excitement as I Will be leaving the house on the 23rd of the month for a clinic appointment. I'm already planning what to wear.

Egghead68 · 12/02/2021 20:58

Shielding since last March (bar a few socially distanced walks last August & September). It’s not very exciting.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 12/02/2021 20:58

It would be a lot harder before the internet, no tv stations from around the world, no grocery delivery, online learning, no video calls with family and friends. We have full contact with the outside world and can take precautions as needed. So 🙏 for the internet.

Egghead68 · 12/02/2021 20:59

Absolutely. I heard of someone trying to shield without Netflix today - madness.

Ohh i love it !!! We got a letter for an upcoming appointment for DC (the poor child has been nowhere only hospitals for a year now!) and the appointment will probably take the best part of a day. What would have been something we dreaded before now feels like a day out Grin
I'm with you on planning what to wear...may as well get dressed up for once !

Amherelive cant imagine how hard it must be for you Flowers

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 12/02/2021 21:45

@amhereliveamnotacat that is so hard. How are you coping in yourself?

marmitebear · 13/02/2021 09:39

I’m confused about if we are still to stop shielding on the 21st or not.

FebFrosting · 13/02/2021 12:20

Still staying at home here apart from having to go to work as a teacher. Group 6 in vaccine list, so hope to get a vaccine in next few weeks. My area is on group 5, but know other areas are much further on which is promising.

Aware that many Children and families I work with are also vulnerable, or mix, or do things that everyone else does - either way I am literally following the rules. Online shopping, my children at home, not even a park or playground visited since last March.

Haenow · 13/02/2021 15:17

With the exception of children, all shielding adults should have been offered a vaccine by now (or in the next few days). It’s my understanding that while the vaccine isn’t yet licensed for children, it can be given to children on a discretionary basis. This gives me hope on cold, miserable, boring days like these.
It’s been 3 weeks since my first vaccine and I’m feeling hopeful.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 13/02/2021 15:42

Following the rules to the letter in this house. We have friends and family who are medical and just about holding it together. Would feel like shit to take the piss when they put themselves in the front line, or to potentially take resources away from people who need it because we were careless/lazy.

Bored yes, but I can't live without the potential excitement of the alternative. Maybe we should subscribe to Netflix ? Wink

On the upside, unlikely to need a bikini ready body this year. Am desperate to find the motivation to stop eating biscuits and shift my lardy ass towards a healthier state. So I'm following the rules but conscious I could be taking steps to reduce my risk further.

My sincere sympathies to those of you who are cev or have family who are. You must be so anxious. ThanksWine

Isolatedizzy · 13/02/2021 15:42

Rule following here, and not even going to the supermarket since Christmas as the cases round here have been so high!
I'm lucky I can work from home I really appreciate that!
I'm doing workouts on YouTube and zoom, going for walks trying to make the best of it but god it is dull!
I miss my friends desperately, I'm the youngest at 54, some have had their first vaccines we're still doing weekly quizzes but I hate that we can't all meet in the pub!

So I'm not enjoying lockdown one single bit but I am following the rules, being ultra careful, following the science and totally understand the position we're in, the spate of threads over the past few days, I'm not doing this anymore etc etc are driving me mad! The shortsightedness and pure selfishness is infuriating! If we don't end up back here again in 6 months it will be a miracle!

I don’t think we have had any information (as usual). My money is on it being extended though.
VicarofDibley · 13/02/2021 16:56

Shielding here too ,Cev severe asthma. I am fully sticking to the rules not going anywhere. Had my first vaccine, pizer and too be honest I don't feel safe till the 2nd
Missing work awfully. God to see this thread and people in the same boat.

VicarofDibley · 13/02/2021 16:59

@amhereliveamnotacat

Shielding because dc is palliative. Completely housebound and isolated. Waiting to hear if underage vaccine will be permitted. If not I don't know what the fuck to do anymore Sad
I am so sorry that is truly tough .Vent on here if you need too Flowers.
amhereliveamnotacat · 13/02/2021 17:56

I have heard back (after chasing) from the hospital and have been told blanket decision - absolutely no children will be vaccinated.

Not that keen on the human race right now.

We are still told to shield at the moment even after 2 vaccines. Sad. I am lucky enough to have had 2 (got in before rule change as am a CEV hospital worker) and still don’t leave the house. I’m hoping the prevalence will fall enough for this to change soon.
caringcarer · 13/02/2021 19:59

I take D's to school, stay in car both taking and dropping. I shop online. I occasionally walk dogs, DH and D's do it more often. I did drive DH to B&Q yesterday but I stayed on car as no need for 2 to go in for a tin of white paint. My 2 adult D's's go to work then come home and don't go out till work next day. If everyone could restrict themselves the virus would be gone by now.

VicarofDibley · 14/02/2021 14:14

It's hard Sad I just want to get back to normal. I haven't had my 2nd appt though yet .The worst is feeling as if I am letting work down .Never in a million years did we ever expect this when it first reached here.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 14/02/2021 14:29

We’re sticking to the rules as much as possible.

DH was made redundant last year and has got a new job but the company policy is that no one works from home. He’s our weak link now.

Even dc (14 and 12) have stuck to the rules really well - we have to leave them home alone when we both at work.

It makes me so cross to see friends and family posting on social media about what they’ve been doing and where - like they’ve decided that the rules don’t apply to them today for whatever reason. Yes, I’d like to go for a walk or a run in a different area to meet one different person but it’s not currently allowed so I’m not. What makes them so special??

I sincerely hope that Wales allows a little more at the next announcement this Friday, but as our rates are still double what they were when we went into local lockdown last autumn, I’m not getting my hopes up.
