Vaccine appointment - can I accompany my DH

I'm having mine this weekend. Does anyone know if I can accompany my husband into the vaccine Centre.. I have a pretty bad trypanophobia (fear of needles) and just want to have DH stay next to me if possible.

GP receptionist said probably he wouldn't be allowed in but she wasn't sure.

Our vaccination centre allowed partners in but it may be different depending on where you go.

Normally not, but if you explain likely yes. We let someone be escorted after stroke, another who's English was poor had another adult to translate etc

Could you call 119 for advice?

Binglebong · 11/02/2021 21:16

It depends on the centre I'm afraid, I suggest you take him and explain at the door. Maybe offer to have it outside of they won't let him in?

My mum went with my dad the other week after he booked in directly using the link that was posted right here on mn 🎉🎉🎉 (in the hopes of getting a spare jab, she missed the over 70s group by a squeak) and was allowed in (but they had no spares, they were using whichever one doesn’t go off as fast).

Different issue, but my daughter was allowed to accompany me for my vaccination. I'm hard of hearing, and everyone, including me, wearing a mask, means I " hear" one word in three.

No questions, really. it was at a vaccine Hub. when we checked in, daughter just said she would need to accompany me. I saw quite a few people being accompanied.

If you ask and explain, I'm sure it will be fine. We have people bring spouses, parents, adult children...
I had a needle phobic patient this morning, I love them! Poor young man was white (with a green tinge!), told me he was really nervous and tends to faint. I asked if he'd eaten anything yet today and he hadn't so I got him some satsumas and sent him to a quiet corner to bring his blood sugar up a bit and calm himself down before he came back in. Then shut the door and let him lie down, chatted away and did the jab which he barely noticed.

Make sure you've got plenty of fluids in you and have eaten so your blood sugar and BP don't drop too much. Take headphones so you can listen to music or watch a video, if that helps you.

Not the one I went to. The woman in front was nervous and afraid, she explained to the nurse, and the nurse took her into her own room to be vaccinated.

Thank you all for the replies :) I'll bring him with me and hopefully they will let him in. (He already had his vaccine so won't need a spare). It's good to know that they may be able to let me lie down - that would be a huge help....

@RagzReturnsRebooted thank you so much for the advice. Ive had a few nurses who just put me at ease magically. I'm sure you would be one of them!

The vaccination centre I’m working in wouldnt bat an eyelid at someone needing somebody with them.
