Hi, DH has tested positive and is type 2 (well we all have tested positive but that's another thread). Waiting for GP to advise any special precautions etc but they can't call until tomorrow.

Any advice? Thanks

Type 2 diabetes? Keep a close eye on his blood sugar levels and encourage regular eating and medication taking (if appropriate) and plenty of drinking.

Borderscotch · 11/02/2021 15:39

Sorry yes diabetes. Will get him to check sugars regularly. Thanks

Have you got an oximeter? Well worth paying for next day delivery from Amazon even if you only end up using it for reassurance.

TheVolturi · 11/02/2021 15:44

Following if you don't mind op as my dh is type 2 and had avoided covid yet (touch wood)
Hope you're all OK. I would definitely make sure he eats well and keeps sugars in normal range.

SospanFrangipan · 11/02/2021 15:44

DH is type 2, and we both tested positive about 6 weeks ago now. He definitely had it worse than I did but was ok generally. He got an oximeter from Amazon on our GPS recommendation, and was also given some antibiotics and steroids to be safe.

Borderscotch · 11/02/2021 15:45

Thank you, yes I ordered one before Xmas as I have asthma so thought it sensible. Will keep a check on us all!

SospanFrangipan hope GP can advise us when they call, it's useful to know what others have done.

Look on diabetes.co.uk for advice.

Borderscotch · 11/02/2021 15:48

TheVolturi of course, it's a worry isn't it. I'm a key worker so was sort of resigned to it.

Glad you’ve got an oximeter. I suppose the best you can do is resign yourself to being super vigilant and quick to react - don’t second guess yourself if you’re concerned. It’s very stressful for you though.

I hope you all recover as uneventfully as possible Flowers

PuzzledObserver · 11/02/2021 15:57

I’m type 2, 57 and borderline morbidly obese. I had Covid at New Year - I’m fine.

Have been taking high dose vitamin D for months. DH, who is a few years older and only overweight (not obese) and does not have diabetes was slightly worse affected than me, but still not bad.

In addition to monitoring blood sugar and oxygen sats, I would suggest not taking paracetamol purely to suppress a fever, as the fever is part of how the body fights infection. If you have headaches or muscle aches as well, that’s different.

Cornettoninja · 11/02/2021 16:01

The recommendation for Vitamin D reminds me that zinc is also meant to beneficial.

Borderscotch · 11/02/2021 16:09

Thank you all. Guess I'll just keep an eye.

I had covid and have type 2, I had it much milder than my husband who has asthma. I dont know if they do Covid at home in your area, but if they do your GP can refer him to it and they will check in on him every day and monitor his sats etc ( you do it yourself at home) we found them brilliant. They sent an ambulance out to check my husband over at one point although luckily he didn't need to go to hospital. Worth asking about. I would say try to keep his blood sugars as well controlled as possible, and keep well hydrated.

Borderscotch · 11/02/2021 22:04

bailey999 that's helpful, thank you. I'll get him to ask the GP tomorrow when they call.

Yes do keep an eye on kidney function too, stay hydrated, eat good foods.

Borderscotch · 12/02/2021 08:37

Thank you.
