That’s how it seems reading posts on here and on social media platforms.
How dare I even think about booking a holiday in this country 5 months into the future?
Why can’t I just be grateful I have my health and I’m not lying in a hospital bed?
I should be thinking of those dying everyday, not booking something so I’ve got things to look forward to...

Well I have one break booked in April, two breaks booked in June and one in August. And yes, they’re all fully refundable. Do I expect them to go ahead? Yes to June and August. Cautiously optimistic for April.

We are going abroad to visit my family ( like we do every summer) in July /August - and I dont give a crap who agrees or doesn't.
My family has had covid already, my elderly mum is vaccinated. She would be devastated if we didn't come. We only see each other once a year.
So yeah, booking and going.
And might even throw in a caravan break in Devon for May half term.
I plan to have as normal life as possible come spring summer, and most of the people I know feel the same.

I hope you manage to get there. 🤞 the numbers will continue to fall.

This post does remind me a bit of all of the posts that were on MN just before Christmas though, of people who refused to change their plans because that’s what they always do.

I wonder how many of them regret that now? I think the only thing that we can be certain about is that we don’t know when things will open back up and travel will be allowed, but hopefully the warmer weather will allow the rates to drop enough.

Me too although suspect that many who did have Christmas meet ups are now moaning there is no school, no pubs and no holidays.

StarsHollow77 · 12/02/2021 19:26

The numbers naturally go down every summer lime with any virus, then go up again once colder monts start. Hopefully now with vaccines next winter isn't as bad as this one.

You can go away, and still be careful. Wear maska in public, keep sade distance, wash hands etc. We went to a country with really low numbers, i think they had about 400 deaths total from the start. And their beaches were dead empty, you could definitely keep your distance. It did us a world of good to see family, spend some time in the sun and return for second wave. Mentally people cant live like this forever. We need to be able to dream of better days! Even if it doesnt happen, it shouldn't be 'selfish' or taboo or rude to wish for a normal summer.
When people say this is the life now, the new normal, never gonna be the same again, better get used to it... I wanna scream.
There will be life again. Pandemics have happened before, viruses come and go, so will covid.
If we want to plan something like a holiday to get through this horrible time, then we can. Do whatever helps YOU! X

We have a holiday booked for August and DH is ECV. Went away twice last year too. We were just sensible and avoided crowds.
As long as its within the rules why not?

didireallysaythat · 13/02/2021 00:42

Missing the point completely - I'm impressed at the number of people who have 4+ holidays booked. Are these weekend breaks? Or are we the only people who have two weeks in the summer for a holiday? It's never occurred to me to book more than one holiday a year. Maybe I need to be more dedicated in my saving plans?

Here in Ireland the government have stuck a 2k fine (each way, per person) on people traveling abroad for non-essential reasons so that’s my holiday plans for Europe gone up the Kyber

That’s a good incentive to stop unnecessary travel. Is there quarantine too?
SunscreenCentral · 15/02/2021 13:45

Oh yes @IceCreamAndCandyfloss of course. The mandatory hotel stay is in the process of being set-up.

No hols for us this year 😭

Illegal?

I havent seen what you are describing at all. Unless you mean people warning others not to book anything that would require a Daily Mail sadface if restrictions dont allow it to go forward.
