Yup we believe you Hancock, this is xmas all over again.

We'll arrange to go away and at the last moment the holiday will be cancelled.

No way I'm booking anything. If it turns out we can go away I'll get the tent out and go camping for a week at the last minute but that's it.

You mark my word, summer holidays will be cancelled.

It will be very very foolish to not allow U.K. holidays to go ahead. If they could go ahead last year then they should definitely go ahead this year as we now have vaccines etc in place, if they don’t go ahead then this isn’t about covid anymore this about something much bigger.

Holidays parks/hotels will not be able to take the hit and will likely have to close their doors for good. Also we need the economy to get moving by cancelling holidays that isn’t going to happen.

Lissy23 · 11/02/2021 14:04

Why on earth would UK holidays not go ahead? They went ahead last year and we hadn’t even locked down by this point!
The tourism industry here is on its knees, of course holidays in this country will happen. Local areas rely on tourism every year. Not just for the holiday rentals, but also cafes, pubs, restaurants and other attractions.

Abroad, I’m not so sure.

Lissy23 · 11/02/2021 14:05

Oh and the vaccines too, an extra add on that I forgot to mention!

needadvice54321 · 11/02/2021 14:11

We've booked a UK holiday and assuming we're allowed to then we'll go. We're prepared to cancel if we have to

EnglishGirlApproximately · 11/02/2021 14:17

If holidays are cancelled this summer I hope they have a plan on how to fill the gap that'll be left by the £37b the outbound travel industry brings to the GDP every year, not mention the 120k people employed in outbound travel.
The amount if time and effort this government has spent banging on about the fishing industry and car manufacturing and there are whole industries worth far far more that they aren't even speaking to.

Good luck finding a vacant pitch at last minute due to reduced capacity and increased demand because people are less likely to be going abroad.
Nekoness · 11/02/2021 15:12

Reminds me trying to find an above ground kiddie pool last spring.. you know, one step up from inflatables that retail around £100-150. Started looking in March last year and they’re still out of stock everywhere. Imagine it’ll be tents and camping equipment this year.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 11/02/2021 15:14

I don’t think summer holidays will be cancelled, so I’ll not mark your words. Although I did have to cancel my Christmas one at the 11th hour, luckily I got all my money back.

We’ve booked a week in Whitby in June, refundable up to the day before, and I think it will go ahead.

Biggest bugbear for me is that my boss (I’m a nanny) has obviously not really planned any holidays at all, and when she doesn’t go away, I don’t get time off unless I campaign for it relentlessly and even then it’s like getting blood out of a stone. I’d normally be looking forward to a week off now while they were skiing Sad

BarbaraofSeville · 11/02/2021 15:18

Aren't you entitled to the normal 5.6 weeks holiday a year like other employees? @SmidgenofaPigeon

Even if they don't go away, they're entitled to holidays themselves (unless self employed) so would be at home and be able to look after and spend time with DC themselves.

Angel2702 · 11/02/2021 15:19

If UK holidays don’t go ahead it will also mean you can’t travel for day trips either as the only reason to stop UK holidays would be to stop travel out of your local area. I really can’t see people accepting being stuck in their local area for the entire year. There’s only so many times you can visit the park.

If kids aren’t being vaccinated there will be mutations all the time at what point then will we ever have a life?

SmidgenofaPigeon · 11/02/2021 15:21

@BarbaraofSeville yes I am but she just refuses to be pinned down on when I can have it- usually it’s fine as they go on holiday a lot. Single parent, lawyer, goes nuts when nanny isn’t around.

FourTeaFallOut · 11/02/2021 15:22

No, it's just the big fear stick out to knock everyone in to compliance on the last stretch. Capitulate if you like but I have my refundable holidays booked in the UK.

ComtesseDeSpair · 11/02/2021 15:26

We’ve booked both UK and abroad as if we’ll go and if it happens it happens. Better to have something to theoretically look forward to even if it ends up cancelled. Not the end of the world if it is. Getting the campervan ready for its usual summer service as well. I’ll be going somewhere, regardless of whatever rules.

SoCrimeaRiver · 11/02/2021 15:38

We have up trying to camp last summer, as you seemed to always need to take your own toilet / washing facilities with you as wash rooms were generally closed, often along with dish washing areas. We've booked to go in a lodge in Scotland this summer, so hopeful we'll be let over the border by then. Anyone want to bet on whether we'll be able to use the swimming pool in the nearby leisure centre by July? We're taking cossies in hope, if not expectation.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 11/02/2021 16:16

Well mine is a spa break and I’ll 100% cancel if they have funny pool restrictions...just no point m! I’m hopeful though.

DavidsSchitt · 11/02/2021 16:36

"You mark my word, summer holidays will be cancelled."

No thanks Confused

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 11/02/2021 18:02

I've got UK and abroad booked. Willing to lose money on the gamble in order to definitely be able to go somewhere.

Exactly this.

We've booked breaks from April and every month thereafter.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 11/02/2021 18:06

Loving the use of "mark my words" in the OP. You mark my words young lady 🤣

whenwillthemadnessend · 11/02/2021 18:08

I have 3 breaks booked all uk I'm worried about Easter not happening but the others I'm hoping will. Seaside towns simply can't afford another season of no income. I think they are saving the best for last in other to not over promise 🙏

FraggleShingleBellRock · 11/02/2021 18:23

I've got a week in Italy rebooked from last May to this May. Then a week in Corfu in July. July in Corfu went ahead last year but was incredibly quiet in the resort. I've also got two camping trips booked as well. One in England and one in wales just to be sure.
