Covid, Easter & Vaccines

Reading through a few threads on here in recent days and its raised some questions for me.

Do you think it is possible that we will end up seeing an increase in infections as a result of the vaccination scheme? Especially after Easter

I may be completely wrong. I hope I am but I'm hoping someone else with more knowledge of vaccination could input.

Many people are now getting vaccinated and starting to meet up again with family and friends and making plans to do so at upcoming holidays because they now feel safe in the knowledge they have the vaccine. The majority have only had one vaccine though which I'm seeing mentioned on here that one vaccine does not offer full protection and also that it takes a number of weeks to gain any protection. I'm not sure if there is evidence yet in relation to the vaccine on the South African variant either but I think it's considered that the vaccine is less effective on this strain and then there is also the question on what impact vaccination has on transmission.

If everyone was vaccinated essentially we would get to or close to a herd immunity level of protection from the virus ?

But while still less than half of the population is vaccinated and people are starting to let their guard down before we get those numbers up higher what will be the impact if any ? Or will all the cases that arise from any mixing be mild due to having the population most at risk vaccinated ?

I think you are right in that people that have either had covid or the vaccine will meet up after waiting 3 weeks.

I don't think it will matter if they are just mild cases? After all the point of lockdown is to stop the NHS getting overwhelmed.

What is the idea behind the vaccinated population still having to follow the regulations and practice social distancing ?

Surely if they are only going to get mild illness and the population who haven't been vaccinated yet are already low risk not meeting a priority group ?
