Yes which is why I stay away

DuchessofHastings1 · 10/02/2021 19:30

Yes but not because I'm scared of Covid, it's the frustration that people actually believe the scare mongering sensationalist headlines and that scares the hell out of me.

There was one I think a few days ago "Asteazenca vaccine doesnt protect against mild illness from South African variant".
The majority reading that would be scared and anxious"
If the headline was "Astrazenca vaccine will cause you mild symptoms but protect you from death and hospitalization" then it would have a totally different emotional response.

The media are irresponsible and biased how they have handled this pandemic and have they have a lot to do with peoples anxieties and mental health.

Totally this. And today again. NO SUMMER HOLIDAYS. The minister didn’t say that. He said he didn’t know!!!

DuchessofHastings1 · 10/02/2021 19:51

The media are complicit in the mental health rates being at the all time high.

makinganavalon · 10/02/2021 20:24

Yes I think many of us are. I limit the news usually but today I have fallen into a trap of googling, news watching and eating poorly as I had some bad news this morning. My mum's cancer has returned and she lives in europe and I'm in UK. I know that I'm prob going to wallow in it today. But tommorrow to get anxiety under control it's back to putting my phone in a box when I'm not using it, not listening to the radio, eating healthy and doing a workout video and I know that will help. I hope you can find something that can help you and be able to feel less anxious. Some things in life we cannot control. Flowers

Relaxing2 · 10/02/2021 20:24

There terrible aren't they for scaring people and mental health it's awful they don't care do they just one little story line could tip someone over the edge I mean I won't even go to my local shop for a loaf of bread everywhere you turn there is awful news never good news

OP posts:
User7458 · 10/02/2021 20:27

Oh goodness OP if you cannot buy food from your local shop, in the kindest possible way you need to speak to your GP and you need to get help.

If you don't feel that you can make an appointment, or speak, you can self refer to the mental health team in your area - google IAPT and you can go through an online referral there and someone will contact you.

Covid is NOT that scary, yes it's bad, yes it can kill people and yes it has done, but for the vast majority of people it is fine, I say this as someone who is CEV, can't be vaccinated and has worked throughout... .. you need to get help if you cannot go to a shop because that is far more of an immediate problem to your well-being Thanksgiving covid is likely to be.

You deserve help OP

OpheliasCrayon · 10/02/2021 20:33
  • not Thanksgiving!! Autocorrect!
  • than covid is likely to be!!
Waxonwaxoff0 · 10/02/2021 20:37

No. Because I know that the media over exaggerate everything.

Unanananana · 10/02/2021 20:59

Nope. The media and moreso social media are always out to make the worst of everything. You get the DOOM from the news. You get morons watching conspiracy theory spouters on YouTube and spreading its nonsense to anyone who will listen. You get posters on here or Facebook dropping links for one-sided articles that start huge rows between those that engage in critical thinking and those that seem to positively enjoy being full of fear.

I choose to listen to the actual science, follow the rules to protect society and try not to care about what everyone else is doing.

frozendaisy · 11/02/2021 11:58

Read a balanced broadsheet, guardian or times, the gutter press use "could" to avoid liable in courts.

Go and get a loaf of bread, you will live to tell the tale.

Don't let offshore haven media monguls make you scared of life. Clickbait that's all it is.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 11/02/2021 12:48

"Astrazenca vaccine will cause you mild symptoms but protect you from death and hospitalization"

The vaccine won't cause you to have symptoms - side effects maybe, but result in the symptoms of the SA variant if you contract it being mild rather than severe.

Headlines putting it around that the vaccine will give you covid not likely to be helpful.

Relaxing2 · 13/02/2021 14:40

That's what I meant. I never meant to say the vaccine itself causes the symptoms, rather it wont protect you from mild symptoms.

I’m exactly the same OP
Have been in a bad way pretty much since last March.
I have felt so ill over the past year, purely through the constant state of stress and panic I’ve allowed myself to be in.
I had the vaccine the other week (CEV), and now my anxiety is focused around that, reading that it doesn’t work, reading comments on online news articles from people saying the vaccine has been made to poison all the old and sick etc. Now that’s in the forefront of my mind even though logically I know that’s not true.
I’m ringing my GP next week as I’ve realised I need help for this now, I’ve spent the past week feeling sick, headaches and dizzy and I’m convinced it is because of all the internal stress I’m allowing
The thing is I think my mind has become so reliant on being on overdrive some days I find myself looking for bad news online to feed it if that makes sense.
Makes me so sad I’m behaving as I am right now, it’s so unhealthy for both me and my familySad

Senso21 · 13/02/2021 15:28

Just seen your last past @Relaxing2 I’m so so sorry. Sending you lots of hope and love xx

florasofauna · 14/02/2021 13:04

You're not alone OP. Do whatever you reasonably can to help your anxiety. I have to. Even the least anxious people I know are struggling. My very anti 'hippy stuff' as she calls it DD has finally accepted that controlled breathing, really being aware of your breathing, helps and has helped her. Same for me. Walking helps me but not for everyone especially if you're bored of walking now Grin

One thing that has helped me is to unfollow any news channels on social media now completely and removed all news apps. Maybe unfollow the Coronavirus board on here too, you can remove and add boards on the desktop site. If there's anything important you need to hear, don't worry, you'll be told! Helps that we cancelled our TV licence so don't get bombarded with any horrible Covid government adverts either. You'll only see Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube on in our house! HTH Thanks
