Had COVID, Getting Vaccine

I had COVID in mid December. Due to my job I’m due to be vaccinated tomorrow. I feel weird about it, will I still have antibodies?

Will it still offer protection. More than I have naturally? I know I sound thick but I’m really not 😀

They don't know how long the antibodies last so best to get the vaccine.

Muskox · 09/02/2021 16:23

We don't yet know the answers to these questions. Even if it doesn't make much difference or only helps a bit it's still worth getting the vaccine.

They addressed this on the Zoe webinar the other day.

The normal vaccine schedule of two doses is described as “prime boost”. The first dose primes your immune system, and the second dose boosts your immunity.

They said it was very likely that natural infection acts as the prime dose, and then when you get your first vaccine dose, it acts as the booster. You could arguably then delay your first dose of the vaccine to 12 weeks after your Covid test, and dispense with the second dose, and have as much protection as someone who had had two doses. But, since having an extra dose will not harm you, it makes sense to take them according to the schedule. To be on the safe side.

the advice I had was to have the vaccine, but wait 28 days after you had the positive test.

Thank you. I’m well over 28 days. Using it as a booster is interesting.

If it's the mRNA vaccine (Pfizer) then you should have excellent protection even after one dose: mobile.twitter.com/florian_krammer/status/1358939148313362433

Anecdotal, I believe, but when people who have had covid get the vaccine they tend to have stronger after-effects. You may be in for a rough day or two afterwards, so be ready with the paracetamol.

My OH had COVID in early December along with the household. He tested positive & lost his sense of taste & smell, has a cough, unwell but not too bad. He had an antibody test last week to donate plasma & it came back negative 🤷🏼‍♀️

So I guess there’s no way to know if you’ll have lasting immunity from catching it ..

PuzzledObserver · 09/02/2021 22:39

It is definitely still advice to have the vaccine even if you’ve had Covid, because as PP said, infection does not guarantee immunity.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 09/02/2021 23:28

that's interesting Moirasroses - I thought I'd read that they'd abandoned transferring plasma, so I was surprised when I got a text about it.

Oh gosh. Well I had my AZ vaccine and its knocked me for six. The side effects are worse than my Covid.

I had the jab at 7.15 yesterday evening, by 2 am I was aching, sweating and my head was banging. I’m feeling awful.

The nurse did say that if you’ve had Covid then side effects can be worse but I thought, nah, I’ve never had an adverse reaction to anything.

I had covid over New Year , got the AZ jab on Saturday and I was perfectly fine , no side effects at all ! This covid is strange tho I’m shielding because I’m CEV I have no spleen and I felt rough for a day or 2 with the covid but other than that if I hadn’t have tested positive I would’ve thought I just had overdone it at work . You can’t judge how you’re gonna feel .

I came home from a busy day at work and DH had made a curry. I said this is the blandest curry ever, it doesn’t taste of anything. Then went round the house sniffing candles and perfume, no taste or smell = positive test result. That was about it.
