School breaking COVID restrictions

I’m a key worker and so my DC have been attending school. I have booked them onto holiday club for the February half term.

I have since found out that the school has opened this holiday club up to any child, not just those who are vulnerable or children of key workers.

I am very worried that my children will be mixing with many more households. I also think the school are breaking COVID restrictions, as other children are required to work from home. The school have told be that it is fine and allowed. Are they correct?

If not, Who can I report this to?

I’m sure they will have checked with the local education authority.

Stationfork · 09/02/2021 10:48

Is it some sort of sports activity? That's allowed for children

ceeveebee · 09/02/2021 10:51

I don’t think it’s allowed - our holiday club is only allowing key workers and they are usually money grabbing so if they could they would!

What sports activities are allowed? All sport closed for children round here?

Floobydo · 09/02/2021 11:02

I just think... how lucky are my dc that I chose the ‘right’ job so they still get to see their friends every day. I’m not going to begrudge anyone else a day or 2 of this. Or a holiday club provider the chance to boost their income.

Rosieposielaw · 09/02/2021 11:03

It’s not a sports activity, it’s childcare during the half term. There will be some activities, crafts, baking, etc.

The school is an Academy.

Thanks for the link

I think its only right. Those kids who have been unable to attend school are being offered an opportunity to see their friends again.

They are not at home because they are a risk to those in school, they are at home because their parents are not key workers. If they have followed the rules etc. Then that would make them less a risk of covid than the kids who have attended school

Totally this. Honestly OP, considering you're a key worker with kids, I thought you'd have more to worry about than this. How many kids who are from the "other" (aka not key worker kids) do you think they'll be mixing with. Hardly going to be hundreds is it. Oh well, I suppose if you report it the school might tighten up their key worker rules than your kids will be at home rather than mixing with the "others"
pommedeterre · 09/02/2021 11:14

I think they should only be for key worker kids reading the link posted up thread? The schools I use are doing holiday provision only for critical worker kids.

This!!

Fembot123 · 09/02/2021 11:28

Wow, that’s harsh of you OP 😡

Rosieposielaw · 09/02/2021 11:33

So we should just start ignoring the rules? Just disregard the safety of the children and staff.

I wish my children could have been safe at home, but from the begin of the lockdown last year they have had to attend.

I’m a Keyworker too, the DC aren’t at home to protect you and your kids! You are lucky and being selfish.
Fembot123 · 09/02/2021 11:36

I just can’t quite believe this post, it’s so fucking cheeky.

TheChip · 09/02/2021 11:37

If there are enough staff to cater for this, then I dont see why anyone would not want children to attend. Especially the children who has missed out on the social side of things for so long.

Sheepies · 09/02/2021 11:37

Others will feel the opposite, that they wish their children could have been in school, the grass is always greener hey.

The school should be acting within the guidance though, have you aired your concerns with them?

Tinacollada · 09/02/2021 11:37

Why does everyone miss the difference between key and critical worker?

Rosieposielaw · 09/02/2021 11:38

I understand why the kids are at home. Therefore they should stay at home if thats the current rules. It’s not just about my children. It’s all those attending, the staff and consequences this can have.

We are so close to getting a control with the vaccine. I think silly mistakes now could cause problems, especially with the new variants

OP posts:
Tinacollada · 09/02/2021 11:39

... ie, so many more children are entitled to a school place this time around.
Including vulnerable children.

I don’t think you should take a place, make a stand OP since it’s so outrageous..
KriekAndWaffle · 09/02/2021 11:39

I think it would be horrible to report this Op.

Don’t you realise how hard this has been for people? Why do you get to carry on as normal and people who are probably hanging on by their fingernails trying to home school and work are begrudged childcare

Fembot123 · 09/02/2021 11:40

If your concern is genuine that is.

WishingHopingThinkingPraying · 09/02/2021 11:40

Is childcare not still permitted? It's not school which is limited to key workers etc. I thought childminders and nanny's and childcare settings we're continuing?

Let her, it’s within the rules.
BogRollBOGOF · 09/02/2021 11:42

Being at home does not automatically equal safe. Children at home have had 7 weeks and counting of social isolation on top of the damage caused by 5.5 months without access to their peers for many year groups.

My 7yo's social confidence has shrivelled and his school friends just carried on in his absence leaving him friendless with no way to patch up in sight. That little window in the autumn term did not undo the damage and now it opens up even further.
