Can anyone make an educated guess about September?

I know I know it's very far in advanced to think of things but I'm just trying to prepare myself.
I'm due in September and to be honest I don't really see things looking 'normal' by then but I don't know? The vaccination roll out seems to be going well and I know there is so much uncertainty in the times ahead but I can't help but get major anxiety thinking about things. So does anyone have an educated guess? On how maybe things could be?

There are little point to these type of threads OP, you will get people saying it will be virtually normal and others saying it will still be awful - does a load of randoms saying either of these really help with anxiety?

GintyMcGinty · 08/02/2021 16:21

No one can make an 'educated' guess because we just don't know what will happen with the variants and the vaccine effectively.

My personal belief is that once everyone over 50 and with medical conditions has been vaccinated and people stop dying and needing to be hospitalised then we will pretty much move back to normal.

At that point it just becomes an unpleasant illness that you get over after a few weeks much like flu.

Yes there will still be a small number of people who get it worse and'or die (much like flu) but at that point society, life, the economy need to get going.

There will likely be bumps along the way with variants etc.

But that is the way I think it will go. Mid summer onwards.

But I don't know any more than the next person who might be more pessimistic than I.

I would guess they’ll still be restrictions but I’ve know idea what they’ll look like. It’s really going to depend on the new variants and if they take off.

*no

Well sorry for wanting some opinions from others, there is no need to bash me just for asking for someone else's opinions. For what it's worth, my family and friends don't know about my pregnancy, and just to hear other people's opinions bad or good help me. So please. If you have nothing helpful to say, don't bother saying it

Chris Whitty, maybe?

I should imagine that people who are really able to make an "educated guess" about how things will be in September won't be posting about it on Mumsnet.

puppychaos · 08/02/2021 16:29

My mum thinks we have another 1+ years of this. I've stopped guessing, it's too depressing.

There are just too many things that could happen between now and then. I hope that things will be relatively normal by then, after vaccination, but on the other hand we don’t know what variants will appear.

My DS was born at the beginning of September 2020. Everything was looking up. We were still able to see people inside where I was, and I was looking forward to a maternity leave of coffee with friends and more things gradually opening up... fairly soon afterwards I was in tier 3 then lockdown.

Dontknowmuchabouthistory · 09/02/2021 03:19

Professor Van-Tam wouldn't be drawn today on questions about holidays in the summer. He said he doesn't know and we do not have enough data yet. If he can't make an educated guess then I don't think anyone on MN can make one about the situation in September either. They could probably make an uneducated guess though.

AquaFairySoul · 09/02/2021 04:16

I cannot make an educated guess about Sept but this is because the man and his cronies who are in charge seem only to be able to make completely uneducated decisions to try to make themselves come across as good as possible politically. Despite being given whatever scientific advice they are, they only care about their image and politics. So no, unfortunately no educated guesses because the decisions that have been made aren't particularly well educated decisions.

Hopefully things are normal for your baby's birth OP, but pregnancy is an anxious time anyway and I think it's probably not going to do anything to improve your anxiety and mental health to be trying to second guess boris and his mates.

My reply isn't going to be helpful, sorry....but yes, I'm making plans for September.
My job is in a school, one that's made a right shit-show of everything, where it isn't safe to be working but is so chaotic that I've been furloughed more than I've been in for the past year. I have fully decided to hand in my notice so I will have left by September...and that plan is now certain in my mind.
It keeps me going through everything else!!
I know it wasn't what you were asking...…….
