Why are people so bloody negative

This is a TAAT except that it not just one thread but all the time. Someone posts that they can't cope with lockdown and are thinking of killing themselves and instead of people giving them strategies to survive and maybe some reason to hope, they just pile on with even more bad news. Mumsnet is getting frankly dangerous for the suicidal.

It's been like this everywhere tbh. Other forums I've on it's been the exact same. Say you're struggling and people will pile on with the "selfish!"

Coyoacan · 08/02/2021 18:06

@CoronaIsWatching, you can worry about that and you can worry about all the possible effects of variants, or you can remind yourself and other people that Spring is coming, millions of people have already been vaccinated in the UK and millions more will have been vaccinated by March.

If you want to be a pessimist, you do you, but do not post on threads where people need a bit of hope

You're not wrong, but I think most of those doommongers are also in a very bad space in their minds and likely just as vulnerable/ unhappy as the OPs. A lot of people are desperately sad, lonely, lost all sense of hope and I think they are attracted to similar posters where they can feed on each other's misery.

@hennybeans

I think you may be right. Unfortunately MSM loves to inflate the tragedy, instead of helping people to make the best of it all.

Completely agree OP. I'm currently entertaining myself by responding to doom monger threads with blatant sickening optimism...it passes the time (and pissed them off Grin)

There's also the very real issue of people being down because winter and nothing to do with coronavirus per sae. I get SAD and this end of winter is such a slog. It's objectively worse this year - I can't travel to get a top-up of sun and there's no little events/gigs/getting together with friends scenareo's to take the edge off.

However I have been here many times before and I know I just have to plod on until I get to the spring. Not everyone will have that knowledge.

Ha @Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady I’m doing the same. I also keep repeating ‘once all the vulnerable are vaccinated and the hospitals aren’t under pressure, we will open up’. Over and over again.
