A lot more people out and about in groups today I noticed, anyone else?

We do our daily walk in a local forest. Usually very early on a weekday and at about 8:30/9am at the weekend.

Generally come into contact with a few people, mainly in pairs or household groups like us. All in line with the guidance.

It was very different today, same time, same place, weather ok, a bit rainy....but lots more people and many in bigger groups 6+ exercising together, obviously non household.

It personally doesn’t bother me too much, as I feel it’s healthier to be out exercising than cooped up indoors. But it did make me wonder if lockdown fatigue had started to creep in and people were starting to vote with their feet?

Has anyone else noticed this?

Not more than normal. Saturdays are always busiest with people.

Once the elderly are vaccinated families will mix and more.

EdithWeston · 06/02/2021 13:34

I thought there were a lot of people around today, and queues (made up of people with no concept of what 2m looks like) outside every coffee shop.

(No I wasn't adding to it - DH was driving us past)

I put it down to it being quite mild today, with really adverse weather inbound.

willFOURbagsbeenough · 06/02/2021 13:34

It’s Saturday.

RedskyBynight · 06/02/2021 13:37

(here anyway) it's been the first nice day for ages. So there are more people out full stop.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 06/02/2021 13:37

When we were in the park a children's party was going on. About 6-7 adults in a circle and about 15 kids playing together. Assume a party as presents being handed over.

lightand · 06/02/2021 13:37

Yes. Spring is coming.
Yes to lockdown fatigue as well.

WalkingOnStarshine · 06/02/2021 13:38

It's so busy in my village today, the weather is beautiful and it feels like spring. All the picnic tables full with people chatting and drinking coffee, groups having picnics, etc.

I realised this morning that I don't know anyone locally who isn't breaking the rules now, I wonder why I bother. Everyone is off visiting their family, getting babysitters, going to parties. It's really wearing thin, but then we've had very low cases the entire time so maybe that's why people aren't bothered.

beckypv · 06/02/2021 13:45

I think the knowledge of cold weather and possibly snow tomorrow is making a lot of families chose to get out today rather than tomorrow.

southeastdweller · 06/02/2021 13:48

It’s been like this for months where I live, and in supermarkets so not just outside round here. I think people in general now give few or any fucks about these stupid rules.

PickAChew · 06/02/2021 13:50

No. It's cold and pissing down (still). People are simply walking dogs or getting some shopping in then heading back home.

I've heard the local retail park is busy, though and the amount of traffic passing our house concurs with that.

peak2021 · 06/02/2021 13:51

No difference for me. Apart from no black labradors taking their owners for a walk.

Rosehip10 · 06/02/2021 13:51

Sw london. Thames path packed with larger non household groups and families.

Swingometer · 06/02/2021 13:55

We have vile weather but noticed a LOT of cars on the road. They can't all be going on essential journeys so suspect you are right and more people are starting to visit friends/family now

TheOtherMaryBerry · 06/02/2021 13:56

Yeah, I've seen the same the last couple of weeks. I think the government have shot themselves in the foot a bit really, talking about it being April or May for mixing again, people just can't wait that long to be together. We haven't been anywhere, we're far too far away from family to see them but if we were closer I'd be sorely tempted to now. It's just too long to be away from loved ones.

Thebusiness · 06/02/2021 13:57

In my area the police are out in the road sending people home. It’s a place that attracts lots of walkers and it has been so busy you can’t even walk on the pavements especially on weekends and residents have been complaining.

AuntyClementine · 06/02/2021 13:58

No difference here. Just been for a walk and it was either people on their own or in pairs.

No more than normal, I went for a walk with my friend and her 3 kids then for a walk by myself. It was busy with people walking but it's Saturday, not raining and nothing else to do so people who want to avoid going stir crazy will go for a walk.

AfternoonToffee · 06/02/2021 14:08

I want to live where you live.

I am currently working in my garden in the rain trying to clear fallen leaves etc to try and stop it flooding again when we have the next batch of rain.

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 06/02/2021 14:14

Where is all this lovely weather??!

Winifredgoose · 06/02/2021 14:15

I noticed the same op. We live near a big open space in London, and I noticed people had definitely relaxed and were chatting in groups, with no socal distancing, for the first time since this lockdown began. Numbers have really dropped locally, so people must feeling less worried.
I noticed the same when numbers fell in the summer. I was worried then that cases would rise, but they never did.

TomatoesAreFruit · 06/02/2021 14:18

People seem to following the rules here.

But, days are getting longer, its quite sunny lockdown fatigue is kicking in and it is half term next week. Following the rules feels very difficult at the moment.

Marmite27 · 06/02/2021 14:23

Not here. It was pissing down at 9am, and we have Covid Marshall's and the type of electronic sign you get in road works with slogans such as ‘hands, space, face’ and ‘act like you’ve got it’ broadcast at you at the gate. Bloody overkill and terrifying for the kids. The council must be pissed of that the neighbouring council who has nine of this and a massively higher rate of inter generational living has lower rates.

CoffeeandCroissant · 06/02/2021 14:27

Not in Scotland, that's for sure. Has been raining or sleeting here almost non stop for a least a week and the temperature hasn't been above 5c for weeks.
Pearl97 · 06/02/2021 14:27

I think people are meeting parents who have been vaccinated.
I also know people who have been vaccinated who are now meeting their parents as the all feel safe 🤦‍♀️
