What time of day did you get your vaccine?

My dad has a theory that earlier times = Pfizer vaccine, later times = Oxford. So you should book early/late according to which vaccine you prefer. This is due to the Pfizer jab having a short shelf life so they use that up first. It make sense, just wanted to see if there’s any truth in it!

The time of day may possibly make a difference in an individual location, but there is absolutely no way to know from facility to facility. At the moment even vaccination centres themselves don’t always know what they are getting from day to day.

I would think generally Pfizer, if already thawed, will be used first because of its short refrigerated shelf life, but “first” may mean all one day and until lunch time the next until the box is empty.

CarryOnPlainHunting · 06/02/2021 08:52

Here it is based in which of the 2 GP practices you are registered with. Patients at practice A go to vaccination centre 1 which only has the Pfizer. Patients at practice 2 go to one of several mass centres that only have AZ.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 06/02/2021 09:00

It's not hard to find out.
if the centre has been open a while and is local to you, ask people that have had it?
Twitter - search for the centre; I found loads of tweets by people who'd been vaccinated there, frequently mentioning which vaccine.

Smaller centres and GP surgeries most likely to be AZ because of logistics

PilatesPeach · 06/02/2021 09:16

I help at a vaccine hub. We are now on AZ for foreseeable future after having been on Pfizer at the start as that was the only one approved. Obviously we will be doing 2nd doses of Pfizer when due. Time of day makes no difference here.

CeeJay81 · 06/02/2021 09:35

Haven't had mine yet, I've got a long wait. Here it's Pfizer at the vaccination centre and AZ at the docs surgery. I've got no transport to get to the vaccination center though, so hopefully will get the AZ at the docs but no doubt it'll be different by then.

DinosaurDiana · 06/02/2021 09:37

I work in a hub and we only ever have one vaccine per day. More often than not now it’s Oxford Astra Zeneca.

pourmeanotherglass · 06/02/2021 09:42

4:30 at a big vaccination centre, AZ.

MythSpentYouth · 06/02/2021 09:51

Your Dad is just making up theories, and he is wrong.
There are other ways to ascertain this than getting everyone to post ‘evidence’ in the face of yet more spurious speculation.

The people on this thread who deliver the vax programme have d planned it.

Squiffany · 06/02/2021 09:53

Pfizer 5pm. Local hospital.

MythSpentYouth · 06/02/2021 09:53

@AuntyClementine

I heard that if you have Pfizer at midnight you turn into a vampire but if you have AZ at midnight you turn into a werewolf.
And if you wait until after midnight you turn into a pumpkin.

True fact.

notacooldad · 06/02/2021 09:54

6.55pm Oxford.

pommedeterre · 06/02/2021 09:56

My FIL was an evening appointment and had Pfizer!

MythSpentYouth · 06/02/2021 09:57

Cluedo.

“A volunteer, Pfizer in the disused sports centre”
“Dr Smith in the surgery with the Oxford AZ”

Thimbleberries · 06/02/2021 09:58

Not sure that places are getting nearly as much Pfizer delivered right now. There were a few centres here doing Pfizer and they're AZ now or not offering many days (GP ones). I think there was going to be a slow-down in Pfizer because of manufacturing issues while they upgrade the plant. I don't know whether it will increase again later in Feb, or if they are going to be using much more AZ now because it's easier to guarantee that they'll have second doses for that. I wouldn't be surprised if they are going to really push AZ now instead.

MrsPnut · 06/02/2021 09:58

GP surgery 4:40, they were using Pfizer but used AZ to vaccinate me as I cannot have Pfizer due to previous allergic reaction to medication.

unmarkedbythat · 06/02/2021 09:59

Pfizer, 10.45 am
Colleague had Pfizer at 5.50pm the same day

QueenPawPaws · 06/02/2021 10:27

Waiting for mine now, Oxford

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/02/2021 10:55

@QueenPawPaws

Waiting for mine now, Oxford
I'm disappointed you've had to wait so long. I'm also getting mine today and I'm group 6! Same as two other friends.

My friend had hers this am and had AZ at our GP. Other friend & I this afternoon, at the same place, guessing we'll get AZ as well

Hope you feel ok after Paws x

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/02/2021 10:58

@DragonLegs. I've heard worse theories, but he's wrong. Well, he's a teeny tiny bit right. If a centre is getting both, you're more likely to get Pfizer in the morning (until it runs out) then AZ in the afternoon, but not that many places will have both

It just depends on the centre & what they're getting delivered.

ifonly4 · 06/02/2021 11:00

8.50am AZ

Cissyandflora · 06/02/2021 11:01

My hospital hub is only using Pfizer. I’m having mine next week.

ApolloandDaphne · 06/02/2021 11:02

Me - 10am Pfizer at a hospital

DM - 4pm Oxford at her GP clinic

thenightsky · 06/02/2021 11:06

Hospital hub here is Pfizer only.

Big sports centre in next town is AZ only.

JaimeLeeCurtains · 06/02/2021 11:13

Maybe the OP's dad thinks that people get vaccinated with ice cubes near-frozen vaccines?

OP, the Pfizer vaccines have to be thawed. They keep in a refrigerator for up to 5 days, according to the NHS's own info.

20viona · 06/02/2021 11:19

Stupid theory.
