We live in Wales, my mum is 80, housebound and has carers coming in twice a day. She has a terminal lung condition, which requires full time oxygen, she is not at end of life yet, but does have very poor breathing. If she has to leave the house she is taken in an ambulance and carried out, so we can't take her to a vaccine centre.
She has up to 6 carers a week coming in to help her and we feel she is at risk from this, I know they follow all the correct PPE etc, but we're still worried for her. My dad is also going out doing the shopping, but he's had his vaccine, he will not hear of anyone else going so we've given up with that idea.
When my dad received his last week, the nurse told him they'd be out to do my mums early this week. They haven't been and are not coming at all this week.
My mum called the surgery and the receptionist was dismissive with her, said they'd put her on the list for a home visit (she wasn't on it until my dad asked, even though she's had a shielding letter), she wouldn't give her an idea of when she might get it, told her she didn't want to hear anymore and put the phone down!
I know that the receptionist is probably getting hundreds of the same phone calls everyday and I imagine is feeling frustrated, but putting the phone down is just plain rude.
Having been a patient at this surgery myself, I moved due to their disorganisation, I feel it could be weeks and weeks before she gets the vaccine.
So, are we expecting too much or should we take it further.
