The problem with cherry picking years last time is the schools weren't obliged to to it. So our school only took back year 1. All this narrative that "reception, Y1 & Y6" went back in June is total bollocks for many.

This time there needs to be consistency across the country at least.

The problem is that there is no consistency across the country in how many children are in as keyworker or vulnerable children.

So a school which has 70% of its pupils eligible for one or the other has much more limited capacity for additional year groups to return than does a school with 10%.

However, the difference from June is that it seems the Government is not planning to make any changes from the 'everyone in, full classes, just handwash and open the window a bit if you can' arrangements in place since September.

So in theory, whichever years go back can just go back into their normal class groups, 30+ per class, no masks, no social distancing, no requirement for teachers / TAs to remain with a single class... so in fact there should be o restrictions on numbers. Just a restriction on safety....so don't be surprised if classes and year groups start closing again all over the place due to Covid cases.

Yep my dc school only took back y6. Although this time theres more than half of Y1 already in and only 2 of Y6 in so it would be a smaller increase to take a full y1 class than a full y6 class.
