Is it safe to return to a covid house?

My SILaw has been isolating in one room of his house positive with covid. My DD and 2 children have been downstairs most of the time and dad has stayed in his room. SILs isolation ends on Monday next week and both kids and DD have all done postal tests which are negative.

DGC is disabled and I always help care for them. SIL is going back to work Monday. Am I safe to return to the house? Both adults are vaccinated and DD will also return to works soon as they are both NHS workers.

I am too young to vaccinate and they won't do it as an unpaid carer at my Gp surgery.

Feeling quite apprehensive but it has been so difficult for DD coping alone for 10 days

Does your SIL still have symptoms? Or anyone else in the house? If not then I think it’s fine once the isolation period is up, although there is still a risk as some people do have a longer incubation period. To be safe you could wait the old isolation period of 14 days.

This is what the rules allow, so you're doing nothing wrong. But there is still a chance that someone in the household could be positive.

If anyone still symptomatic then don't return as may still be infectious. Unpaid carer role out not until Feb 22nd for vaccine

Vaccination makes no difference to this scenario, nor does the presence of negative tests within the 10 days from other household members as they could still become infectious within the 10 day period.

SI was reduced from 14 days to 10 to improve compliance so you may prefer to wait a few more days if you feel uncomfortable.

You will almost certainly be safe. To be absolutely sure wait another 4 days.

Everyone is well now, but I think I'll leave a few extra days. My DH is medically vulnerable and I am over 65 so I think I need to be extra careful. Dh is getting the vaccine tomorrow so that's a little extra security.
