Great article demonstrating why for once we should be proud of our government

(And it pains me to praise them!)

Basically the U.K. government unlike most European governments is proactively engaging with pharmaceutical companies and offering r&d money at risk. This French company has received nothing from their own government. The EU approach has seriously failed.

I'm pro remain and actually any eu country was free to take the same approach as the U.K. but followed like sheep thinking buying power in bulk was the key factor when actually it was fast and flexible.

Bit of a stats nerd here so looking at the figures is fascinating me, sad I know

Yes, I cannot stand this government but they have done fantastically well in securing orders for a wide variety of vaccines.

Baileysforchristmas · 04/02/2021 11:31

And the updated science data coming in seems to back up the 12 week 2nd jab plus good news on tweeting vaccines for new variants

I applaud their success so far with their vaccination programme, it was undeniably a good call...

But, and there’s always a but, it doesn’t wipe their massive mistakes from history and given the consequences of them they rightly will be scrutinised and hopefully answerable.

I’m also not a fan of the language used so competitively against the EU. Calling the bloc ‘sheep’ when they’re using a method designed to work collectively (regardless of success) is unnecessarily inflammatory imho. This isn’t a football game, there are no winners or losers just people suffering more than others and I find it a distasteful framing of events.

Baileysforchristmas · 04/02/2021 12:17

And 10 million vaccinated, 15 million by the end of this month, if supply keeps up we should have vaccinated the whole adult population with 2 jabs by August 😊

SandyStarfish · 04/02/2021 12:26

I'm pleased our government are doing a good job regarding vaccination; I'll never be "proud" of them though. That's like being proud of a convicted murderer because they did one good thing afterwards.

I don’t think we should forget we have had one of the highest death rates in the world.

Yes, they got in there quickly with the vaccines, but this crisis has highlighted a great deal of incompetence as well.

More good news 😊
