Captain Sir Tom Moore is dead

Looks like he had a final few days reminiscing his life with his family.

What a guy! He sounded so happy to travel again, at the ripe old age of 100

In a sort of synchronistic irony he died from the illness that made him a national treasure and got him knighted.

Rest in peace Tom!

I am so glad this lovely man got to go on one last big trip

I'm really sad to read about his passing :(

Lockheart · 02/02/2021 16:31

It's sad he's died but there are already many threads on this. Do you not think it's a bit ghoulish to be in such a rush to spread the gossip that you overlook all the other threads?

SummerHouse · 02/02/2021 16:32

He was a beacon of hope at a time when we most needed it.

Twistered · 02/02/2021 16:33

Ach @Lockheart don't be harsh.

Op thank you for your post as I didn't know he had passed.

What a man and what an inspiration to us all

I don't mean to be harsh, but I do find it quite distasteful when something sad happens and posters fall over themselves to be the first to post the news so you get a rash of threads all saying the same thing! Perhaps it's just me.
Mintypylonsfryingsurplus · 02/02/2021 16:39

Well you are just as quick to get on threads and reply Hmm

tearsandtiaras · 02/02/2021 16:53

and you have managed to turn a lovely thread into something negative and about yourself when this was about Captain Moore

i for one certainly don't care what your views are on what people should and shouldn't post

like i said im on the front line social care i work full time with patients and i don't have time to read all the mumsnet boards

You just do a search. Not foolproof, but of course you don’t have to “read all the Mumsnet boards”, and if you’re doing such a critical job that you want us all to be awed by, maybe you don’t have time to join the death thread rush anyway?

When the death was announced in parliament by the Speaker of the house, the next labour politician (sorry, didn't recognise him) said: "Some people are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them. I think Captain Sir Tom did all three."

That was a lovely comment.

thereisonlyoneofme · 02/02/2021 17:32

There have been a lot of threads re Captain Tom most of which have degenerated into nastiness and been pulled, some people just cant help themselves. Perhaps enough has now been said about this sad news

trulydelicious · 02/02/2021 19:04

Great man, so sorry he has passed

ArosAdraDrosDolig · 02/02/2021 19:08

What’s wrong with people here? If you can’t say anything nice, say nothing.

RileyG73 · 02/02/2021 19:47

The fucking clapping has commenced already.
Confused

Buzzinwithbez · 02/02/2021 20:13

That seems a pretty good way to go. Travelling to exotic warm places and making lots of memories with your family well into old age, then a short illness and dying surrounded by family.

RickiTarr · 02/02/2021 20:56

And what a final year he had! Like Miss Pettigrew lives for a day, but more so. A Knighthood as well, and then he was lucky enough to go with his family around him.

A lot of what’s left of the war generation will be carried off by this awful virus, but sadly many of them will be alone.

RIP Sir Tom.
