If previously going to work eg construction (the example they love to use!)

They haven't said that anything needs to change, so yes industries like construction can continue.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 01/02/2021 18:20

Of course we can Confused

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/02/2021 18:21

Yes, of course. Nothing has changed.

LucasLeesEyebrows · 01/02/2021 18:22

From what I understand nothing is changing except households will be asked (doorstepped) to take a test

MostLee · 01/02/2021 19:12

They are happy with the lockdown rules already in place.... so, people can go to work and spread away 🤪😩

Wingingthis · 01/02/2021 21:09

I don’t understand the doorstep testing then? And saying to minimise social contact but then got to work?! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/02/2021 05:44

Working is essential. Everyone can't just stop working.

The testing is to attempt to find cases who then won't go to work.

The reduced socialising is to reduce spread.

What is it you don't understand?

So everyone should down tools no matter what work they do? I presume you still expect to still eat, have electricity, water, gas, police, health workers, vets, teachers (I could list so many more but can't be bothered)?
Skipsurvey · 02/02/2021 06:00

well i wondered the same

motherrunner · 02/02/2021 06:02

Just posted this on another thread:

Just carry on as usual, unless the government are going to build walls around each postcoded area! I don’t live in one of the areas but my friend, who lives in my postcode, is a teacher in a ‘doomsday’ postcode. We can’t just stop going to work so just carry on following the usual guidelines.

Skipsurvey · 02/02/2021 07:17

essential workers should continue to go to work, but act as if you have the virus.

Wingingthis · 02/02/2021 07:19

Obviously don’t expect nurses etc not to go to work ..... 😑
I meant if the South African varient is that bad that they have to do door to door testing then they should make sure all non essential workers don’t go to work until they get their result surely? A couple of days? And have the £500 for people who will miss out on pay

OP posts:
Ch3rish · 02/02/2021 07:25

Is it that bad or are they taking a proactive approach to try and stamp out a new variant because we are now in a position where we can do it?

Awareness has been raised, go to work but be extra careful.

Skipsurvey · 02/02/2021 07:26

surely non essential workers are not working?

covetingthepreciousthings · 02/02/2021 07:26

If they're doing door to door testing won't they miss people if they're out at work / at the supermarket? Unless it's a scheduled time that you know they're coming.

Hotcuppatea · 02/02/2021 07:27

Yes. All thats different is you're being asked to take a test. There are no additional restrictions.

PurpleDaisies · 02/02/2021 07:28

Only people who can’t work from home should be working anyway.

This should be tightened up across the country.

Pastanred · 02/02/2021 07:35

I live very near PR postcode and don't know a single person working from home. Since advice was reduced to 'you can go to work if you cant work from home' all employers ave jumped on it - its noting like the last lockdown - schools in area are almost full.

No one will be home to answer those doors today so seems pointless

I don't know where the PR postcode is but it can't possibly be true that everyone who lives in it is out at work everyday. Even in normal times there isn't anywhere that has all the population out at work Confused

This makes no sense? Do you mean people who can't work from home shouldn't be working? Who is going to pay for that?
MissyB1 · 02/02/2021 07:50

There are far more people going “out” to work than in the last lockdown, I think that’s fairly obvious. I can tell just by the roads in the morning, I’m a TA so have to go to work but the roads are like a normal non lockdown rush hour.

PurpleDaisies · 02/02/2021 07:51

Sorry, I don’t think I was very clear. I meant that plenty of offices are insisting people come in when they could work effectively from home. Some schools are insisting teachers go and teach their remote lessons from empty classrooms. That’s what needs to stop.

Ah yes, I see. I agree, anyone who can work from home should be doing. Employers who make staff come in when they could work from home should be held accountable.
Wingingthis · 02/02/2021 09:35

Yes sorry wasn’t clear - Many jobs that are not “Crucial” are at work right now, for my example my DH who works in film. He can’t work from home so is at work, but his work is most definitely not essential so surely those who fall into those category should be off and stay home until
Their test result if in the postcode areas?
Just a thought - I could be wrong.
And the £500 pay to help those who will miss being payed for those 1-2 days. I got my results back in less than 4 hours when I had my asymptotic test though!
