Can someone clarify the asthma situation?

At first people with asthma were in group 6

Then they weren't

Now apparently people who use a brown preventer inhaler are back in group 6.

I used to use a brown inhaler but was using my blue one too much (asthma was not controlled) so they moved me to symbicort which is a combined inhaler.

So am I on the list for group 6 or not, as I don't use a brown inhaler anymore.

Does anyone know or could link to the guidance?

Following as that sounds exactly the same situation as DH is in and I have no idea where he stands group wise.

PronounssheRa · 01/02/2021 12:58

Asthma uk are currently saying if you use a steriod inhaler they think it's group 6 but they are waiting for clarification

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 01/02/2021 13:01

But is does symbicort count as a steroid inhaler?

To say I've had asthma since my late teens I know sod all about it!

I use symbicort and am group 9.

midgedude · 01/02/2021 13:05

Was it not "if you get invited to flu jab because of your asthma " or has that changed !

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 01/02/2021 13:07

I use symbicort and am group 9.

Have you had your group told to you by a doctor, or are you going on what you've been told on here etc?

Just copied this from google:

Symbicort (budesonide and formoterol fumarate dihydrate) is a combination of a steroid and a long-acting bronchodilator used to prevent bronchospasm in people with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).2 Nov 2020

....So symbicort is a steroid inhaler. So we should be in group 6 according to some things I have read. Just wish there was clear guidance

Half way down on this page but still waiting clarification

I asked our GP this morning by email and have just had a call. DS with asthma is definitely in group 6, he takes flixotide preventer. I was concerned as he is 16 so if not in group 6 he may not be offered at all.

CornishYarg · 01/02/2021 13:49

I'm also on Symbicort so I would like to know this.

When I had my flu jab at my local pharmacy, they asked if I was on a steroid inhaler (as that would determine whether I had to pay). I'd just collected my repeat prescription of inhalers so I held up my Symbicort box and said I'm on this but I don't know if it's a steroid inhaler. It must have qualified as one as I didn't have to pay!

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 01/02/2021 13:55

Unfortunately my GP doesn't have an email address so they only way to know would be to phone up. And we have specifically been asked NOT to ring up about the vaccine.

The uncertainty is really messing with my anxiety

Dh checked with nurse when he went for a blood test. He's group 6.
Catlover10 · 01/02/2021 15:07

Following as a family member Is also confused by this

Athinginitself · 01/02/2021 15:52

Definitely group 6. Asthma uk have clarified this. Symbicort is a combination steroid inhaler.

Pearl97 · 01/02/2021 15:57

Have asthma UK clarified it?

Athinginitself · 01/02/2021 16:08

Yes. Have attached some images from their twitter

asthma uk is waiting for clarification. No one really knows. My nurse said 6.

Watsername · 01/02/2021 17:38

It seems it has been confirmed by the government to Asthma UK, but they haven't changed the green book, so the news isn't filtering through to the GPs - which is useless, as we won't be invited with Group 6. What can be done to get the message out?!

kimlo · 01/02/2021 17:39

and symbicort is a step up from clenil/qvar. There are 3 people in this house on steroid inhalers, they are all different and only one is brown.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/02/2021 17:40

I've been told by someone who is involved in rolling out vaccines in our area that those with steroid inhalers are being included in Group 6. I don't know if that is a local decision or a national one.

herecomesthsun · 01/02/2021 17:44

DS with asthma was started on relvar elliptica off licence when he was 11. It is quite a high powered steroid. I wonder whether he will at some point be able to get a vaccine.

Just2MoreSeasons · 01/02/2021 17:46

I'm also wandering about this. I'm on Revlar, which is also a steroid inhaler. But I don't think I'm classed as having severe asthma.

Whitecup4 · 01/02/2021 17:49

I’m on symbicort and fostair plus I have a blue inhaler and I take montelocust. Would I be in group 6?

When is group 6 getting vaccinations? What group are we currently vaccinating?

Sorry for all the questions

FlibbertyGiblets · 01/02/2021 17:50

I get an annual flu jab invite (and accept!) I take Sereflo25/250 one puff twice a day.

I guess this puts me into group 6?

Baileysforchristmas · 01/02/2021 17:51

My husband has a red inhaler and. Blue inhaler, he also had a stroke 10 years ago, should he be in group 6?
