If you have had the vaccine....

Is it easier to feel hopeful? Do you feel different?

I'm not expecting to be vaccinated for a long time. I'm am (like many) finding it difficult to feel hopeful right now, find it difficult to imagine a return to normal, or even close. I wasnt at all worried before but as the goes on I feel more and more anxious. I wondered if the vaccine gives a different perspective.

I’ve bad mine. Really pleasant experience too, no pain and no side effects. I feel hopeful of some normality

Chocolatewins · 31/01/2021 21:49

Good to know @PumpkinSpicedLatte. It feels like a fairly successfully managed vaccine programme so far.

I've had my first one but instead of relief I feel even more worried! I could be positive and completely asymptomatic and therefore at risk of spreading it without even knowing. On my ward we have had 3 staff who have had their vaccines then have positive tests on routine screening.
When you have symptoms you isolate. When you are well you don't!
I should add that I'm a stickler for rules so in work have always worn PPe, distanced etc, at home the same.
It terrifies me!

Chocolatewins · 31/01/2021 21:57

That does sound worrying.

I don't feel any different or safer. I wasn't particularly happy about having it but I did. I know theoretically I've less chance of dying if I've had the vaccine but I might not have died if I got it anyway. And I still might get it and spread it. Haven't changed my behaviour at all but hoping the bigger effect of everyone having the vaccine will benefit us all.

greatpopcorn · 31/01/2021 21:58

I got mine before Christmas and literally cried with joy throughout the appointment Grin

DirtyDancing · 31/01/2021 22:00

Yes I do feel hopefully. I was quite emotional getting it. However, I am concerned about variants and new strains so do not feel like I will act wildly different because I do not want to catch it and pass it on to others whom have not been vaccinated

Northernsoullover · 31/01/2021 22:01

I've had mine but my parents haven't. I won't really feel happy until they have been done. That said on the actual day I felt utterly elated.

Three! good gracious that is very worrying. How long between the vaccinations and the positive tests?
Incrediblytired · 31/01/2021 22:03

I’ve had it but none of my family have so it hasn’t changed anything yet...I feel a bit safer in myself though. (I have an underlying health problem but not CEX and only got it because I work for the nhs)

PurpleBirch · 31/01/2021 22:04

I had mine today. It feels like the dawn of a new day. I feel so hopeful! 12 weeks feels like a long time to the next one but the end is in sight.

SandyStarfish · 31/01/2021 22:05

I feel worried to get my second dose in case of allergic reaction. And glad to have had it, but a bit anxious about it all the same.

AnneElliott · 31/01/2021 22:07

I've had the first dose. Had side effects but glad I had it. Don't feel very different- I'm pleased my parents have had it though.

If you’re a nurse do you think it’s responsible to post irrational worries on here?

Lots of people have tested positive with no symptoms, that’s why we test asymptomatic people. You have no reason at all to believe the vaccine had anything to do with the cases you mention, and it’s unlikely that sufficient time has elapsed for those vaccinations to have taken effect.

If you are a nurse, shame on you for your insidious scaremongering.

MrTrellis · 31/01/2021 22:09

Having the vaccine was such an emotional event for me. I felt really exited all day after. I just couldn’t believe what a brilliant human race we could be if we only did the good things!
I had a mad temperature after and was achy and swoony but I was so at peace lying in a pool of sweat in bed.

Peanutbutteryogurt · 31/01/2021 22:10

I don't feel any different. I had it as I work for the NHS but I could still pass it on to DP or DD or my ECV mum etc. I was never particularly worried about myself in terms of covid in the first place.

Barracker · 31/01/2021 22:10

How much time elapsed between the staff having their vaccine and then testing positive, dicdicnurse?

Luzina · 31/01/2021 22:13

I’ve had first dose, I’m very glad I’ve had it. I had a couple of days of feeling achy and tired but nothing major. I am behaving as if I haven’t had it though, seems safer that way. I think I’ll feel relieved when I’ve had 2nd dose.

Chocolatewins · 31/01/2021 22:16

I know people can't behave any differently post vaccine but I thought it might make a way out of this feel more real.
I hadn't been worried personally before but have found myself really focused on the vaccination programme recently.

ellyeth · 31/01/2021 23:23

I have been invited to have the vaccine but have said I am still uncertain as to whether I wish to take it up. I expect it will cause outrage and accusations of "selfishness", etc, and that is one of the reasons I feel concerned about the whole situation - the "othering" of people who express any doubts about having the vaccine, its efficacy or possible side effects.

There are 12 people in my group of friends and 9 or 10 of them have been vaccinated. Of that number, two suffered quite nasty side effects over a number of days. I am concerned as to whether there might be long term health implications.

dicdicnurse · 31/01/2021 23:33

Sorry, I'm not scaremongering, I'm giving my personal opinion based on what I've experienced. Of course people should get the vaccine when offered and of course it's going to make a positive change to our lives eventually but my initial reaction to the question the op asked is that it's not the game changer I hoped it would be just yet. We are a long long way off from getting out of this situation.
For those that asked, two had their vaccines mid December and tested positive in jan, the third tested positive 4 days after her first vaccine.

Skyppy · 31/01/2021 23:35

Had mine yesterday and was thrilled. I will feel safer after 3 weeks and even safer after the second dose.
As someone who had cancer as well as other underlying conditions I can honestly say the risk of covid to me was worse.

Anyone who doesn't have it because they might get a sore arm or feel a bit achey for a day is obviously not vulnerable enough to have lived in fear of dying of covid for the last 10 months.

dicdicnurse · 31/01/2021 23:35

In addition, I'm still counting down the days until my parents get their vaccine appointments. They are both vulnerable and almost 80. So yes, when they get it I'll feel immense relief that they are protected.

vodkaredbullgirl · 31/01/2021 23:39

I had mine Friday, my arm ached for a day.

Pizzafortwo · 31/01/2021 23:42

Well it is good to know things are moving. I feel relieved to get the invite. Mine is next week. Mildly apprehensive but only as I take immunosuppressants, I hope I don't get a cold or feel rubbish, but relieved.
