Do you think masks will still be a legal requirement

Come may?

OP posts:
MrsMercedes · 31/01/2021 17:21

i've spent the day telling customers to put the mask over their nose as well as mouth.......they act surprised i'm asking, and its been months since it became commonplace.

if its going to be here for a while then i think better enforcement. The wearing of masks is becoming a joke. people say they are exempt knowing they can't prove it either way and we cant ask

so whats the point?

inquietant · 31/01/2021 17:22

Yes, by May only half the population will be vaccinated. I think masks are here for the long haul tbh.

MrsMercedes · 31/01/2021 17:22

@RaspberryCoulis

God I hate masks. Loathe and detest the bastard things. The day where I can throw every single fucking one in the bin cannot come too soon.

(And yes, before the Covid police mask-lovers jump on the thread, I do wear one. Not because I think it makes much difference, but because I don't want a fine. I'm the person waiting until the very last second to hook the elastic over my ear, and pulling it off as I'm walking through the door.)

what fine?
RaspberryCoulis · 31/01/2021 17:36

what fine? Hmm

"Enforcement measures for failing to comply
Where face coverings are required, if a member of the public does not wear a face covering police have enforcement powers including issuing penalty notices of £60 (halving to £30 if paid within 28 days) if members of the public do not comply with this law.

People responsible for relevant premises where face coverings are required should take reasonable steps to promote compliance with the law."

I'd rather not be shelling out £60 to the Scottish Government if I can at all help it.

peak2021 · 31/01/2021 17:38

Yes beyond May, face coverings will still be a requirement I think. I'd like to see them be a permanent feature in GP and hospital waiting rooms as well. I think some of the one way systems introduced in some settings ought to remain.

AuntyClementine · 31/01/2021 17:39

In May? Yes.

JengaJanga · 31/01/2021 17:39

May? As in 3 months time? Yes, 100%

gettingusedtothelimelight · 31/01/2021 17:39

@User56666 Why May in particular?

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 31/01/2021 17:40

In some places yes like supermarkets etc and thats fine by me

MrsMercedes · 31/01/2021 17:40

@RaspberryCoulis hmmm yeah right Hmm

there are no fines going on with mask enforcement!! i'm laughing so hard at that thought!!! I work in essential retail and have all the way through, police are not bothered!! anyone can simply say that masks make them feel anxious/claustrophobic or whatever they like .... they can self declare they are mask exempt

I wonder how many fines for this have been issued

IcedPurple · 31/01/2021 17:40

Masks cost the government nothing and 'mask compliance' - or lack thereof - is a great way for them to place the blame on people. So I expect the requirements to remain for some time.

User2378901 · 31/01/2021 17:42

Quite probably.
I threw a couple of Christmas ones ceremoniously away when I put the Christmas decorations away but I found another Christmas one in my drawer today and put it back in 🙄. I’ll be gutted if I need it again but not as sure as I was a few weeks ago that it will be all over by then

PuzzledObserver · 31/01/2021 17:43

@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair where are you? If in England - where have you been since face coverings were made a legal requirement on public transport and then in shops and then in all public indoor spaces last summer?

How anyone can not know that face coverings are a legal requirement where they live is beyond me. OTOH, if you are confused about how many people you can meet and where, that is understandable, because it changes every 5 minutes.

I wear a mask every day, totally compliant but I didnt know that it was actually the law. I assume it's not actually enforced as I see non mask wearers in the supermarket every time I go and no one even asks them as they go in.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 31/01/2021 18:15

Just in case anyone still disbelieves the laws on mask wearing and the fines, a BBC link

Here forever with the virtue signallers wearing 3 at once.

RaspberryCoulis · 31/01/2021 18:54

Mask compliance here is very high. Went into Aldi this afternoon for milk and bread and there was not one person in there without a mask on. That's not unusual.

unless you stand there all day marshalling then you would think compliance is high

they all put a mask on to gain entry to stores without much issue....keeping the thing on the whole time....and i mean keeping it on properly, well thats a different story!

Rockbird · 31/01/2021 19:07

I've got used to them now and am not too bothered by them. My only issue is the buggers steaming my glasses up and I still haven't found a fix for that. Otherwise I don't really care either way.

jabsinarms · 31/01/2021 19:08

Masks will be one of the very last interventions to go if at all. Even if gigs, theatres e.t.c.. are able to run at full capacity I can imagine that masks will still be needed until the pandemic is under control across the whole world.

cadburyegg · 31/01/2021 19:18

Yes I think masks and social distancing will go on for the rest of the year. These don’t have too much of a detrimental impact on people.

Social distancing doesn't have too much of a detrimental impact on people? Not seeing family and friends? Really?
ElectraBlue · 31/01/2021 19:26

Obviously not as some people can't wear them due to various health conditions...so there will never be a blanket requirement for every single person to wear them and there is not enough police to enforce such a rule...

TornadoOfSouls · 31/01/2021 19:43

So would I. I’d like them to become culturally normalised enough that people feel comfortable wearing them on public transport if they have a cold or anything that spreads through coughing, sneezing etc.

Yep, social distancing doesn’t have much impact. I mean, who wants to see their friends and family?
