I think it will be something like:

Schools/college.
Non essential shops.
Pubs and Hospitality
Hair salons, beauty treatment
Theme parks
Zoos
Swimming
Ballpit soft play

But no good guessing a timescale.

Schools first.
Outdoor attractions - zoos etc.
Non essential retail.
Gyms/swimming pools.
Indoor attractions - cinemas/museums/soft play.
Pubs/restaurants will be near the bottom think, hardest place to control people and get them to social distance.
Last of all - theatres/concert halls/nightclubs. God knows when that will be.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/01/2021 16:37

Oh I missed out salons - I think they will be around the same time as cinemas.

Jenjenn · 29/01/2021 16:38

1)Schools/college.
2) Non essential shops
3) Restaurants, hotels, pubs that serve food (must have a main meal).
4) Zoos, hairdressers, beauticians, swimming, theme parks
5) Pubs that don't serve food

No idea for Ballpit soft play

ElliFAntspoo · 29/01/2021 17:37

Schools
The 40% of non-essential shops that have survived
The 20% of hospitality establishments and personal care businesses that have survived.
The 40% of entertainment venues that think they can manage to get people through the door.

Then aa announcement that swimming pools and soft plays and such things will be considered in the near future, followed by the pre-Christmas firebreak lockdowns, the promise that Christmas will not be a repeat of last year, a Christmas exactly the same as last year, a winter of terrorising announcements and TV adverts telling us how many people are dying, TV shows telling us how stupid we are and how its us that are killing people, and questions on MN in January asking whether or not it'll be different in 2022.

What about hotels and self catering???
I’m desperate for a few nights away....just a change of scenery!

redsquirrelfan · 29/01/2021 17:53

Outdoor sporting venues
YR, 1 and 6 back in school like in the summer
Non-essential retail
The rest of primary school years
Hairdressers, other close contact services
Cafes and restaurants in daytime
Accommodation
Indoor leisure facilities
Secondary schools
Pubs and cafes/restaurants at night

At which point they will remember that universities and sixth form colleges exist - and reopen those in September Angry

Mass gatherings indoors: next year

Restawhile · 29/01/2021 17:56

Sorry but I don’t think it’s fun at all - I work in one of these industries. Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻

Change the wallpaper on your computer. There are some lovely ones out there.
Coasterfan · 29/01/2021 18:12

I think similar to last time but schools first rather than last so

Schools
Non essential retail
Zoos, farm parks outdoor stuff
Then theme parks, beauty, pubs, restaurants maybe all the same time like in July?

Though I think zoos and farms opened before theme parks, I know pubs, theme parks, hotels, hair and beauty all opened on 4th July last time and we went to a farm in may half term and a zoo for Father’s Day in June.

Work or worked? I don't imagine the coming depression is going to help the hospitality industry much.
ElliFAntspoo · 29/01/2021 18:25

What about guided city tours, bowling alleys, ice cream vans and clowns?

Delatron · 29/01/2021 18:28

Golf and horse racing for the men.
Some years of primary school
Non essential retail
Gyms/ restaurants
Hairdressers
Pubs
Soft play
Clowns (?)

tatutata · 29/01/2021 18:29

@ElliFAntspoo hahaha yeah probably something like that!

Greenandcabbagelooking · 29/01/2021 18:31

Primary schools
Secondary
Non-essential retail
Pubs/restaurants
Outdoor attractions
Indoor attractions

EatingAllTheCookies · 29/01/2021 18:31

I meant doesn't need to be a debate Just a wild fun guess.

My preference would be

  1. Schools
  2. Other people's gardens (happy to cap at 6people)
  3. Outdoor attractions
  4. Indoor attractions/gyms/pools (with capacities set/slots)
  5. Non essential shops and hair/barbers
  6. Pubs and restaurants

Keep the borders closed til Jan 1 2022.

Katie517 · 29/01/2021 18:45

I think they will relook at transmission areas and crowds so will be different to before and think they may let hairdressers and gyms open before non essential retail (I’m thinking April) given they have social distancing in place and a booking system. Non essential retail is a joke as they don’t monitor numbers of people especially in indoor shopping centres.

Then pubs/ restaurants with food I’m thinking maybe end of April/May

I feel like the could open outdoor attractions like Zoo’s etc at the same time as schools going back and enable you to meet with 6 people outdoors as the risk is so minimal.

I think UK hotels and self catering from May (they will want the bank holiday trade) then holidays abroad from July/aug. there is no way they will keep borders closed all summer.

IcedPurple · 29/01/2021 18:48

there is no way they will keep borders closed all summer*

But the borders have never been closed.

Calmandmeasured1 · 29/01/2021 18:55

Bloody hell. You must be really bored if your idea of fun is guessing when places will re-open. You going to keep guessing for at least the next 5 - 6 weeks at least?

ElliFAntspoo · 29/01/2021 19:36

@Delatron

Yeah. The clowns business has really tanked. Summer and autumn were a washout because none of the usual venues were open, fairgrounds have all been parked up for 9 months, the seaside resorts didn't open, and even with part time stuff like kiddies parties, we've not had bookings in almost a year. Our car is now declared SORN and I'm seriously thinking of buying a suit and tie and applying for a job in the city.
ElliFAntspoo · 29/01/2021 19:37

But I try to keep a smile on my face. Smile

Poppystars · 29/01/2021 19:44

Probably watching football in large numbers and anything London based
