What did you feel like eating?

My mum has covid and is off her food. At the moment she is only managing drinks as even plain bread is making her feel sick. The reason she got tested was because her museli tasted not very nice so clearly her taste buds are playing up. I would like to drop off some food but I'm not sure what to get her. If you have had covid what did you feel like eating or drinking?

My friend said she was more interested in textures due to being unable to taste- she liked those go ahead bars with crispy biscuit/melty topping/chewy raisins.

Thanks - that's interesting about the textures - I wouldn't have thought of that

Texture seems to be a big factor, my mother had covid last year and still can't eat certain things because they feel all wrong. Said eating chocolate is like chewing a waxy crayon (not a problem I have sadly Grin) Its a very odd virus

I could only tolerate crunchy foods when I had covid. It was all about the texture for me too. Having anything soft or soggy made me feel sick.

Exact opposite for me. Could only stomach strawberry yoghurt. Couldn't even get through a slice of toast.

Soup for me, didnt seem to matter if it didnt taste if much. Also I drank pints of squash, was v v thirsty.

Agree on the texture, with no sense of taste or smell everything was bland mush. So granola was good, some salad things like celery and peppers. Also, even though I couldn't taste it, I could feel the heat from chilli, so anything really spicy was good. Oh, and crisps!

Thank you - I've got some ideas now that I will ask her if she likes the sound of.

My mum still has a sense of taste but altered so some things she can't stomach at all. I found an older mumsnet thread that suggested salty food and to avoid anything with sweeteners as that those seem to taste stronger than usual. Some suggestions on there were tuna mayo sandwiches, cherry yoghurts, milk, cheese, and digestive biscuits.

Toast, dry biscuits (digestives), yoghurts, jelly pots, soup.
