Vaccine - how do they contact you and what group are they up to?

I was moderately hopeful of receiving vaccine soon, but round here seems to be rather tardy. Message on GP website says they are doing over 80s at he moment, and there are no big vaccination centres anywhere near here. I do not live in a remote area, either, but quite a densely populated one!

Anyone any info?

I had a text from GP with the booking link.

I’m CEV, and it seems they started round here on priorities 3&4 together last week (pretty much as soon as they said in press conference those groups were ‘open’)

It’s a complete patchwork across the country on how far through the first 4 priorities each area has got

My Mum received a letter. My Auntie and Uncle had a phone call from their GP. Different areas.

IrmaFayLear · 28/01/2021 10:47

I’m cev . Perhaps there is an inordinately huge number of pensioners round here... but to still be doing over 80s ? And there is only one GP surgery doing jabs as far as I can see for a very large population. The nearest vaccination centre is 40 miles away.

It was covered on tv - letters from NHS or phone call from your gp. If you get a letter I think you go online to book an appointment.

SendMeHome · 28/01/2021 10:57

It totally depends where you are. My father in law is mid 70s and has his last week, my friends dad lives about 15 miles away and is 78, and has been told it’ll be a few weeks yet.

JiminyLeeCricket · 28/01/2021 11:03

CEV but I'll be amazed if I get any contact. I just don't think the CEV system is that efficient tbh, from what I've read on here on the various health topic boards and from my own experience.

Mousehole10 · 28/01/2021 11:05

Can you get to the vaccination centre 40 miles away? If it were me I’d travel there in an instant! Think you can book online on the NHS vaccination booking website if your in an eligible group.

IrmaFayLear · 28/01/2021 11:22

I’d jog nude 120 miles to get a vaccine! But you can’t book unless you’ve received official notification.

They are down to the early 70s now round here (West Mids).

crazycrofter · 28/01/2021 11:42

The areas where I know people round here - Birmingham, Worcestershire, Warwickshire - are all doing over 70s. Warwickshire seem to be ahead though.

Have you checked on the website? You can book once your letter has been generated. Post is taking a long time in some areas. I know people who managed to book before they received their letters!
PrincessNutNuts · 28/01/2021 11:46

My great uncle's first jab was arranged through his care home with a local GP, my aunt received a text with a booking link but there haven't been any available slots to book yet.

IrmaFayLear · 28/01/2021 11:46

Ah, I’ll have a look then. They can only tell me to bog off!

So I've just had a letter from my consultant to say to stop taking my immunosuppressive drugs at least a week before the vaccine, and for 10 days after.

(I inject fortnightly.)

Trouble is, I haven't got a scooby when I'll be vaccinated or how much notice I'll get. I've no transport at short notice, and I'm supposed to be 'shielding'. This where I need the logistical skills of Brigadier Prosser Smile

Looneytune253 · 28/01/2021 12:19

My area (NE) are well into early 70s now. It was on the news that our local supplies were going to be diverted as it was going faster than elsewhere in the country

IrmaFayLear · 28/01/2021 12:21

I just did online form - I was indeed told to bog off!

My mum and dad had a go on spec and got the same result Smile

Do you know where it's happening in your neighbourhood? Is your GP involved? Because you hope that it's all joined up and your consultant sent them the same letter, but... Hmm
